Tanfo FPS
« on: December 13, 2017, 11:56:52 AM »
When I acquired this Witness .45 awhile back the first thing I did was send it to EAA for the recall firing pin and stop. The pin seemed a little sticky to me so I decided to pull it apart to smooth and polish things up. I've removed 1911 FPS's countless times but this was the first time for a Witness. I pushed the pin in with a punch, leveraged down with it, and the FPS did not move. Tried it a few more times with the same results. I finally had to "three hand" it and drive it all the way out with a hammer and punch. After removal I noticed this peening on the slide at the bottom of the FPS slot. Is this normal, or should I smooth this off as well?

Just checked out my 10mm Witness Steel and like you had a bear of a time getting the FPS off!

when I got it off I noticed a lip like yours but not as pronounced

Interesting thing is I removed the FPS a while ago to do some polishing, and don't remember it being this hard to take off. Could just be my bad memory, or it could be that the lip forms from wear over time. Either way, I doubt anything bad would happen if you file it away.

Huh, that's interesting. I was almost thinking that EAA did it as part of the recall process to keep folks from pulling it so easily. I can see a mark on the bottom of the FPS that corresponds with the lip, and it is definitely a new FPS.

I just got finished filing off the lip and polishing the pin. It went back together like it should - just a little thumb pressure.  Even did it half a dozen times just to make sure!
