Need help with the Safety
« on: December 16, 2017, 10:39:51 AM »
Hi all, first time CZ owner (as of yesterday) and brand new to the site.
I picked up a new CZ-75b yesterday with the full intent of carrying it cocked and locked as I do with my 1911's. The only thing that puts me off is the safety. Not only is it not very tactile, but a heavy sneeze could disengage the safety. Where could I find a heavier safety Detent spring, and how hard is it to install. I have ZERO experience working on CZ pistols.

Cheers

Look in the stickies above the Gunsmith section and do a search and find the info available on dismantling the ejector cage/safety.  The tiny springs  aren't difficult to remove but are really small and awkward to handle.
Make sure you cleaned and reoiled your new B thoroughly to get the manufacturing goop out of the action.
If you prefer a SA Pistol,  that is not hard to do with your DA/SA 75B.  You can add a straight SA trigger and make it much more like the 1911.
Let us know how it goes.

Others here will add more info.

The safety shaft (left side) has a bump/cam on it that moves up against the arm on the sear (to stop the sear from moving and releasing the hammer if the trigger is pulled).  It may be that the bump/cam needs a little bit of metal removed from the top of it (probably very small amount, if that's the issue) so it can fully rotate into the SAFE position.  Can't say for sure without looking at it and then only if you've got some experience with it.

There is a company making a stronger spring for the detent that pushes against the safety.  I've looked at them and considered buying a few, just to have, but just never did it.

I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I installed the dsperman extra power safety detent spring in both the 75B models I own and it makes a world of difference in the action of the safety lever. Well worth the small amount they cost.

put one in my shadow and helped a lot, but still would not like to carry in condition one, which seems soo unnecessary in a da-sa gun and now that after 40 years I have converted it seems like a really bad thing to do.

Like copemech said^^^^^.
I need a stronger safety detent spring just so I can't accidentally engage the safety on a high grip and fast draw.
For me,  learning the DA first shot makes the gun safer and simpler mechanically  to just "draw the gun and pull the trigger".

I don't carry a da/sa pistol in condition 1 but I do like the more positive function of the safety with the stronger spring.

The reason I'm buying CZ's is so I can carry cocked and locked.  If the safety is on when it goes in those kydex holsters it's still on when I pull them out.  Only a couple "good" things about kydex and being stiff as a board is one of them.

Of course, nice tight groups is a big draw, too.
