CZ 527 American in 6.5 Grendel
« on: December 21, 2017, 10:59:28 AM »
Anybody here own or get to try one of these? The ballistics on this round look very interesting.

I wish CZ made the 527 Carbine in this cartridge but I'm glad to see them make it in the American at least.

There are a few threads about it on 6.5grendel.com, quality seems to be somewhat hit or miss.

I got one a few months back and have only been able to shoot it once.  My wife had back surgery two months ago, so have not been able to get out to the range.

Mine was typical of the other two CZ rifles I have , one another 527 and one a 550 Safari American, being a bit rough.  A little careful stoning of sharp edges on bolt locking lugs and polishing did wonders.  The stock on mine has some nice, not exceptional wood, a light honey color, that looked like it had little or no finish when I got it, which was ok with me as I got to put on an old style oil/wax finish that I like.

My initial outing was not all that great, it was very hot and humid, so bad that sweat was constantly running into my eyes making it hard to shoot, plus I did not have the qd scope rings set quite right.  Using some factory Wolfe ammo for a first time I was getting groups around  1.5-1.75",  not bad considering the conditions and my state of mind with the heat.

Got my CZ 527 in 6.5 Grendel about 6 weeks ago. Bolt was stiff for first few rounds, but smoother up nicely with use. I hand load Hornady 123 SST for this rifle. With IMR 8208 XBR powder this rifle will shoot 3/4" groups. Only shot 1 coon so far, and it was hard on that coon.
Waiting on a wild hog to test this outfit. I really like this Rifle.

I just put in my order for one of these. The 527 American with Walnut in 6.5 Grendel. I'm anxious to see how it shoots. I will put a 3 x 9 x 40 Leupold vx2 on it. I'll hunt deer and varmints with it. I have a 455 in 22 lr that is a tack driver. That's what did it.
