Disappointed in NJ
« on: December 27, 2017, 07:38:38 PM »
Turned in my permit paperwork over a month ago, stopped by the police station today and was told there system was hacked, it may take 3 or 4 months to do a background check. I own a CZ-97, was hoping for the SP-01, so sad.

You are talking about a permit in order to simply PURCHASE a pistol correct? Not a permit to carry it concealed in public? I don't believe the excuse about the system being hacked. NJ just does not care about firearms owners; in fact NJ (as a government entity) actually despises firearms owners. You should have been disappointed about 40 years ago.

That's a significant improvement over when I lived there. They should be hacked more often.

My advice? Get out before they build a wall around that state. It's bad enough you have to pay an exit tax (yes that's real).

Yes, NJ state laws are horrifying towards law abiding gun owners, and the new governor will make it worse. I wish you best of luck, sir.

Oh boy don?t get me started about NJ.... it is hell here. You need a separate handgun permit for each and every handgun. You can only get one handgun per 30 day period, but the permit itself is only good for 90 days, with 1 extension for 90 more days requiring you to go back to your PD for a chief's signature.
Problem is that by the time the PD calls you that the permit is ready, a few weeks could've passed from when it was dated so your 90 days quickly becomes like 75... NJ is a true 2A nightmare and sure to get worse as a result of our recent gubernatorial election.

I applied for 4 handgun permits in early November but won?t see them till at least mid January. And my township is considered one of the faster ones. Some can take well over a year! What town did you apply in?

And then of course there is the AWB...

NJ is worse than pretty much all other states for CCW. Even DC just got CCW. And many counties in NY and CA will issue. It is nonexistent in NJ!

That shouldn't be difficult. You only have about 49 others from which to choose ;D Even those paradises CA, MA, and NY are better choices (just stay out of NYC)

If retirement income taxes are a factor, then you have only 43 states who will take less of it.

A few years ago Washington Times rated AZ #1: https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/mar/20/arizona-vermont-top-list-gun-friendly-states/

One of its commentators wrote "Notice the lowest rated states also have some of the highest crime rates...coincidence?"

IF the hacking is true,  could you imagine what info is in the wrong hands?    Firearm make/model/serial # and their housed location!
Imagine anti-gunners using this info to picket or worse,  then there are the thieves.

Guessing talking about your local PD ?

Not the best state to be a gun owner. The permit process is redundant enough let alone the one gun a month which started a few years back.

Good luck, hopefully it won't be that long.
