Rusty Nuts Designs AK style safety. Read if considering.
« on: January 16, 2018, 08:48:26 PM »
After getting on the notify list for an HBI AK style trigger, I got a Rusty Nuts Designs AK style safety. It is a polymer safety that appears to be 3D printed. Im not overly pleased with it. There appears to have been no finish work after it was printed out. The hole that slips over the shaft is .072" too large and causes it to be very sloppy.

I would send that back.  Never heard of that outfit but places like HBI are referenced all over this forum in a very positive way.

They are not listed here:  https://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=78944.0  where the aftermarket/accessory dealers are located.  To me that is a red flag.

Maybe I am missing something since I am just a CZ newbie.

...appears to be 3D printed.

I think you're right. On their page, it's described as PETG filament, which I believe is that plastic spool that feeds the printer.

I actually got it from Anarchy Outdoors for $14 shipped. Already sent them an email with pictures and the video, along with specs for the shaft and the hole. But I figure it will cost me less time and $ to mill out pieces to fix it than it would to take it to the post office. I'll probably end up using it as a template to make one out of aluminum. Ive already drawn out what I can transfer over to aluminum. Until then, Ill make a bushing for it.

Yeah, they arent listed there. But, sometimes you gotta look outside the usual spots to get what you want. Sometimes it pays off (Apex Optimized grip and Maglula from Optics Planet for $20 less than other places after discount), sometimes it doesnt.
But, if I spend the $14 and find that it requires machining to make it work, thats fine by me. As long as someone else who doesnt have access to the things I do, sees this and doesnt have to wonder if it will work.

Yep. All reviews are helpful, good or bad. Especially when there is a limited market and something/someone new jumps in. Never know, may find something good one day.

That looks awful. Whoever made that does not know how to run a 3D printer.

"Designs" is a term to be used loosely, it looks like all their parts are pretty much identical copies of HBI parts.

I encourage you to write an honest review of the product on their website since there are no reviews of it yet.
Tried, it wouldnt let me submit it. Since we have a go to list of vendors, maybe we should have a No-Go list also.
