CGW SS Guide Rod wear
« on: February 01, 2018, 09:58:35 PM »
Is anyone here experiencing abnormal wear on their p-10 CGW Guide rods?  I?m running the 15 pound spring with it and while I was cleaning it tonight I noticed that the rod has a bunch of dimples, dents and scratches in it and is rather rough now.  Just wondering if this was normal or not.  I have only shot about 800 USPSA 125 power factor loads through it.

Geez,  The plastic guide rod in my P09 doesn't look that bad . And it's  got several 1000 rounds through it.
 Something is wrong there !!!

Looks like they need to be black nitrided. They'd be harder and slicker.

Normal. Guide rods will show wear from the spring compressing around them and expanding again. No big deal.

Nah. That would just add to the cost for both CGW and the end user for no good reason. Guide rod wear like this is extremely normal and after a certain point, will not get any worse.

At minimum I'd want it to be hardened and the CGW product description doesn't say whether they are or not. Maybe they just had a bad batch.

I'll probably buy the Gray Guns rod and be done with it. They are hardened for sure.

I am using the Super Black Gray Guns guide rod with a 15 pound spring and the rod is showing no wear at all. Very happy with this product.

Yea I just ordered the gray guns rod to replace the CGW SS rod.  This is my carry gun so i wouldn?t want this wear to cause a malfunction or something

How do you think this would cause a malfunction?

If it gets gouged enough perhaps the slide might move slower? IDK.

That would require an awful lot of gouging.
