Very Nice A2 Dissipator Style Carbine there, vit15!  Reminds me of the M16A1 Dissipator Carbine conversions done towards the end of the Vietnam War, like the one pictured below from Hunt101.

What is the advantage of the Phantom versus A2 attachment?

The Phantom YHM28 is designed more for CQB and the serrated prongs leave nasty marks/bruises.

From their site:

This suppressor virtually eliminates flash and provides excellent performance with night vision. Incorporated into the design is the ability to use the suppressor in hand-to-hand situations. Precision CNC machined and finished with a mil. spec. phosphate coating. Includes washer.

Vit15,

That particular Dissipator was a conversion performed by it's owner on a basic AR15 SP, who used an actual M16 version during his service.

Historically, the M16 Dissipator conversions happened to a number of M16's towards the last year of the Vietnam War and were primarily for Urban Combat, being shorter and handier within Buidings and Apartment Complexes.  Some also saw Jungle usage as the South Vietnamese liked them quite well.

These conversions were performed by local armorers, which involved shortening the barrel, rethreading the end of the barrel for the flash suppressor, and enlarging the barrel gas port as the shorter barrel does not provide the same amount of gas pressure at that point.  Some (but not all) of the current A2 Dissipator Carbines tap gas at the middle of the barrel instead, as is done on the M4 style carbines.

The Phantom, when permanently attached to a 14.5" barrel, will give you a legal 16" barrel.

Hey Stasher1, you like that EOTech?  I like to keep things simple, but my eyes are telling me they need just a bit of help.  How is your accuracy with it?

My accuracy hasn't changed, but my speed has. The EOTech is the fastest optic I've ever used. Both eyes open, focused on the target, with the reticle where you want the bullet to go. No worrying about cheek weld or eye relief. Pick it up, point and shoot. You'll really notice the difference on moving targets. Just ask the DEA.;)

Here is an image of my latest AR build:

It is a 16" RRA midlength post-ban upper assembly mated to a DPMS lower with RRA internals and a 2-stage NM trigger with a 1.5 lb. break. The buttstock is a generic 6-position collapsible unit.

On a whim, I purchased a $25 BSA red dot sight from Wallyworld and mounted it atop the tactical carry handle. At that price, I was not really expecting much from it (read disposable); it was a b!tch to adjust, but once zeroed, the sight was able to hold sub-4" groups at 100 yards with my reloads. To me, that proved two things:

1. You cannot judge the quality of a product by its price, and

2. Chinese prison labor can put out good products.

(Just kidding on #2 above! :D )
