CZ rear sight dovetail spec's available?
« on: March 18, 2018, 06:37:13 PM »
I have a 75 P-01, 75 SP-01 Tactical, and 75 BD (all decocker models).  I am trying a number of different front and rear options to help find something that works for my carry (P-01), range gun (75 BD) and the one I hope to use in competition this year (SP-01).  I've been getting by with the factory sights at ranges of 10 yards and closer (recently added fiber optics on the front sights has been helpful) so my carry and range gun are fine, but I have vision issues--I'm nearsighted-- beyond that and am thinking of a red dot for at least the SP-01.  Red dots work well for PCC style matches at close and distant range (~25-30 yards) using my distance prescription glasses due to the flat plane of the red dot image on the glass, and want to try a RD on the pistols as well.

The recent post on a budget rear sight dovetail mount is a great idea for testing, but it's not clear to me that the 3 pistols share the same size rear dovetail--that way I could move one setup around and see how it works on each pistol.  Anyone know off hand?  Thanks.

The knowledgeable folks at CGW or CZ Custom could probable answer your question and suggest options.

However, keep in mind that for proper (snug) dovetail it sometimes takes a bit of fitting; which may not easily accommodate switching sights back and forth between guns.

Switching slides between the same model pistols with the sights already mounted might be easier.

Thanks Stuart for verifying those dovetails are the same.

Apparently there are some Full and Compact CZ-75's that use a different Novak-style dovetail. I know my 2075 RAMI does, but it appears to be same cut as the P-07/P-09.

Anyhow....I just finished mounting the Leupold CZ-75 #170903 dovetail adapter with a JPoint RDS onto my P-01. Fit exactly the same as my SP-01.

However, I need to verify exactly what height front sight is required to utilize the 'notch' at rear of JPoint for BUIS.  It takes a .275 height FO front on my SP-01; but it might need to be slightly taller because the P-01 slide is shorter sight radius.

I'll start a new post 'Project P-01 Red Dot & BUIS <$325'

Did you need the Gorilla tape "padding" underneath the mount as you did for the full size pistol?

So far it looks like Leupold, Springer Precision, CZ Custom offer dovetail mounts for the CZ75 platform.  Others I've missed?  I'll add links in a bit.

Yes, I followed the same procedure as I posted for SP-01 and same mm size 4-.70 x 8 button head cap screws.

It snugged down perfectly.  Gonna go to the range tomorrow to dial it in.

Quick UPDATE:
Although this setup works great on the SP-01, the JPoint ran out of elevation adjustment on the P-01. Cranked all the way; POI is still about 8" low at 7 yards. The SP-01 can be adjusted dead-on with more to go.

I thought it might be a defective JPoint, so I switched the one from SP-01 onto the P-01; and it's the same issue. Even tried removing the Gorilla tape. Still the same. Apparently just not enough 'tilt' to compensate for the shorter barrel/sight radius. Dunno why; I thought it would be the same.

I'm going to contact JP Enterprises and see if I'm missing something; but for now I want to say to anyone following this thread; it doesn't work on the compacts.

I might just have to mill the slide, which is what I had planned to do if I was happy with the RDS on the P-01.  -Vinny.

Hmmm. Well, for now I will try the Dawson FO front and rear set for the P-01 and see if that works better for me than FO front only. Thanks for the update.

I may have missed it but what distance are you shooting?  Have you tried a different brand optic to see if that has a greater range of adjustment?  I've had issues with CMore scopes not having a wide range of adjustment range, and perhaps the JP by design just has a narrower spec.  Just a thought...

I normally set my pistol RDS at 10 yards, but couldn't even get this to work at 7 or 10. I shoot defensive 5 to 10, and target at 15 occasionally out to 25 where my eyesight runs past it's limit.

I have a bunch of optics: DPP, RMR, Venom, JPoint, Sig Romeo. 1st time I've run into an issue with elevation adjustment limit, but this is the shortest barrel I've tried to mount an optic on.

I'm not giving up on this project yet; I just didn't think it would be right if I didn't mention that I ran into an issue.

I'm going to contact JPoint to see what they say.  Worst case I'll use it on another pistol (I have a JPoint mount plate for my S&W 627-5 357 magnum revolver).

Vinny, your detailed experiences have been invaluable, and will be the route I take for my own SP-01 Tactical--we've both addressed at length our slowly worsening eyesight with age, and the need for options is paramount if we want to continue to enjoy the sport.

I'll order up in the next couple of days, and set up some training time with a USPSA master class shooter I know around here and see how the setup works for the competition set, and hopefully my distance prescription will work fine as it does for PCC with a red dot.  I want to make sure your low cost approach holds a good zero and can take a lot of shake and bake.  I suppose worse case, if it doesn't, I'll follow your lead on a good P-01 solution, and put that on that pistol and my 75BD so I have good bullseye experiences as well as defensive shooting practice.

Thanks again.

Thanks Boss,

I may have figured out a solution for the JPoint mount on the shorter barrel P-01.

Here's what the Manual says:
"However, there are occasions when the point of impact of a particular firearm in the elevation range will be outside the adjustment range of the sight. This requires alternate solutions such as shimming the sight."

So, instead of running the Gorilla tape underneath the full length of the mount; I'm trying the tape just behind the dovetail to act as a shim to tilt the optic mount slightly downward getting me back into adjustment range. Because the screws still hold everything down tight, this should not effect reliability.
I'll post my results.  -Vinny

Wait a minute.......If all else fails...READ THE MANUAL!  ::)
I have figured out a solution for the JPoint mount on the shorter barrel P-01.

Success!

Tape on just one end underneath mount creates enough 'tilt' to provide elevation adjustment

After dialing in here's a 2"diameter sticky at 10 yards:

I had a similar problem with the Shield mini sight on my M&P 9L
Jpoint will send you a shim, but I had to use 2 to get mine in the correct range
I ordered one of these and it works with the shield as well.

Now I'm zeroed in at 50 feet dead on
I've got one of the CZ Custom shop multi optic dove tail mounts for my Shadow 2, but I
haven't tried it yet. I  bought it because initially I was going to sell my M&P and get another Shadow 2
and put it on one of them but I'm actually getting along pretty well with the M&P now so I  may have ordered this mount for nothing.
Still interested in trying it out but re zeroing my rear sight on the shadow has scared me off for the time being.
