Did I Do The Right Thing?
« on: March 31, 2018, 11:10:54 AM »
Just having read lewmed's post about recoil spring failure at ~450 rounds (!!!)
http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=95795.msg736672#msg736672
and having repeatedly tried to find, after reading the CGW recommendation to replace at 1000 rounds
https://cajungunworks.com/product/60001-rami-recoil-spring-assembly/
and having been on CZ-USA's Notify Me list for months without response, I decided that I'd pop the USD 100 for DPM Systems Technologies RAMI kit
https://dpmsystems.com/cz-2075-rami-b-db-30-barrel-9mm-40sw
so as to be able to carry with fresh springs. I'll swap out back to the stock spring assembly for firing range practice (where a failure would be of little consequence), until a failure occurs, by which time (hopefully) the factory USD 15 kits will have become available. Believe me, I'll order two or three when they're finally available!
Imho this is CZUB irresponsibility to allow such a defensive carry-critical subsystem to remain unavailable for so long. I'm copying them on this post.
Opinions welcomed...

Pappa Wheele
My spring failure at 450 rounds was due to a broken spring and that is very rare. My current spring has over 1000 rounds fired and still going strong. But I do change springs when I'm at the range and use a newer spring for carry. The last time I bought parts from CGW's I bought the inner, outer and rod for $15 and several outer springs for $5 ea. I'm set for several years. Enjoy your Rami it's a great pistol.

Looks cool.  Are those prices in Euros only?  Interesting.

I received my CZ RAMI Friday and took it to the range Saturday. Fired 200 rounds Freedom Muntions 135 gr. I had 3 failures. The first was my fault. Loaded the mag to full capacity and the first round failed to chamber. Needed some break in time.

The 2nd and 3rd were with the last round in the mag chambering but did not fully chambered. Both caused the slide to lock forward into battery but would not fire.

After some giggling and tapping I got the rounds to fire and the slide locked open as normal. No other issues and I was impressed with the pistol's accuracy.

(Target at 7 yards)

Yes Tyerone; with postage and after conversion rates the cost came to a few cents over $100, quite a premium over the $15 stock assembly.

I just didn't want to risk spring failure under duress of an actual defensive carry situation.

This bit of experience http://www.defensereview.com/cz-2075-rami-big-gun-performance-in-a-sub-compact-dasa-9mm-40-sw-pistol/ speaks of following a 1911-based regime for recoil spring replacement (at 3500? rounds) so it appears that the design stress levels of even full-size pistol recoil springs are typically higher than the "infinite life" characteristic stress (Endurance Limit) of most steel product designs, no doubt a packaging space-driven issue.

The DPM Systems Technologies springpacks have quite a bit of publicity behind them, and I've not seen any negative beyond failure to meet recoil softness expectations in some cases. My first DPM purchase, for Wifey's (still waiting...) new Urban Grey Suppressor-ready SP-01 Tactical, was actually shipped from Israel (Zahal http://www.zahal.org/groups/recoil-reduction-system) where I also got this ultimately cool (and free shipping, despite separate order!!!) Keeper of Israel patch https://drive.google.com/open?id=1b8b2r_-Q0QG5fCcmwG9wT5BCZytE0ix7

4/20/2018 Update
The DPM springs have finally arrived, and I installed them for concealed carry. Racking effort is noticeably stiffer, so I'll need to do trials with my current duty ammo:
https://underwoodammo.com/product/handgun-ammo/9mm-luger-p-90-grain-xtreme-defender/ as soon as I can.
