Compact CZ with Ambi Decocking Levers - Question
« on: May 10, 2018, 01:13:50 PM »
I have a P-07 ODG (and love it) but just a few days ago while practicing I discovered I can no longer pull the trigger in DA mode with my left hand.  I shoot left handed, am left eye dominant and all my holsters are left handed.  BUT........I used to shoot handguns right handed because I'm stronger on my right side (guess I'm really sort of ambi and actually do more things right handed than left).  Then I hurt my shoulder and started shooting left handed and have done so now for many years.

I contacted CGW and they recommended I try the 92030 short reset kit, HS-18 and RP-TRS in order to reduce my DA pull.  The parts are on the way to me as I type this!!!!

I have severe arthritis and degenerative disc disease which just continues to get worse which is why I'm asking this question:  If the new parts for my P-07 don't help my left hand in using the DA pull, which CZ compact size pistol with ambi decocking levers, if any, might be able to have an even lighter DA pull?  I want to stay with a compact size.  And of course if I have to I can switch back to right handed and buy new carry holsters but I'd rather not do that.  I also do not want to go cocked and locked/manual safety or a striker fired.

I'm hoping to get my P-07 working out for me in left hand DA mode but thought I'd go ahead and see what anyone else may suggest.

Thanks

New pistol really isn't necessary. If what you have coming doesn't do it, there's more that can be done to get your DA pull even lighter.
We're sending them out the door with ~8lb DA pulls (compared to OEM which we have seen as heavy as 12-13lbs!) on our Battle Series packages. Sometimes even less when tolerance stacking is really nice to you. ;)
That's with a 15lb main spring, polishing trigger bar, polishing hammer strut, and polishing FPB plunger. And no problems at all with any primer ignition. Note even cheap steel cased ammo which is known to have hard primers.

Great news that more can be done to my P-07 as I really love that gun........once I have my new parts in I'll see how she does and go from there.

Thanks for the information.

Agree with Brass.  I've done that to my P-09 and while I've never measured it, the DA is smooth and light.

Update:  my parts came in today and late this afternoon I FINALLY had time to start installing them.

SRS Kit
#18 Hammer Spring
Reduced Power Trigger Spring

I must say, I watched 3 different videos about a zillion times.  Actually, given that I've never stripped my CZ down this far I am amazed that everything is back together with the new parts and there aren't any left over  ;D

Next weekend I'll function test with live ammo and for now I'm using a little revolver for bedside and carry.  The gun seems to function properly but has to be tested with live ammo of course.  I especially need to make sure the extended firing pin is OK.  It seems that sometimes it sticks out just the very slightest bit when it's not supposed to be.  But maybe that's OK and maybe it will stop doing that, I don't know.  Anyway, can't wait to get to the range.

Now for the drama..........I was ready for those "flying springs" but of course first thing I did was let the little spring under the ejector fly "somewhere" in my dining room.  The shocking thing is that I found it.  The rest when pretty good until it came time to re-install the decocking lever spring.  OMG, what a PITA that was, took me forever to get the little "leg" hooked.  Didn't help that I couldn't really see good and had such poor lighting that I was holding one of my weapon lights in my mouth....LOL.

I next discovered that I HAD to use the new roll pin that came with the SRS (well, that's what someone said on the internet on one of the videos).  Of course I had used the old roll pin since it looked good.  So I took out the old roll pin and re-installed the extended firing pin with the "new" roll pin.

On to the reduced power trigger return spring.........I only THOUGHT that the decocking lever spring was bad!!!!  That darn trigger spring......OMG.......I let it fly about 8 times and once again can't believe that I found it each time.  I dropped it on the table a zillion times.  I saw a video where the trigger was removed and the spring was captured with a slave pin and then the trigger put back in but I was being lazy and didn't want to do that (why of course not, why do it the easy way).

Bottom line it that I learned tons about my CZ P-07 and would do it all over again (well, except for those 2 darn springs).  I'll post my range results next weekend.

DRUM ROLL.............I can now pull the DA trigger with my weak left hand so I can continue to carry in my left hand holsters.  Now that I've achieved a lighter DA pull, I'll do some of the polishing that is recommended to get my P-07 even smoother.  The SA reset is fabulous!!!  When I'm at the range I'm going to have the DA and SA pull weights measured just so I'll know.  Too bad I hadn't done that before the updates.
