New to CZ Want to set up Shadow 2 rig for competition
« on: May 24, 2018, 11:10:04 PM »
I have finally decided that my competition gun will be a Shadow 2! I have spent several weeks trying to determine from all of the available companies and options and have finally landed on the Shadow 2! I couldn't be more excited to finally have a platform picked out. My father in law started off the addiction with the private range and competition style shoots they hold every week, and now I am trying to take the steps towards competing outside of their private group. The Shadow 2 is a little outside my initial budget (originally looking at Glock 34s/M&P etc) so I may be a few weeks from buying, but i'd love to hear some advice regarding the accessories I will likely need/want. I have already started looking through posts about people's recommendations and I kept finding my way back to this forum and finding great information so I wanted to join the community!

-Before I buy i'd love to know the difference between the all-black discontinued model vs. the urban grey and black w/ blue grips. I prefer the all black, but want to make sure they didn't discontinue it for some functional reason.
-Secondly for competition shooting I will likely need several additional mags. Are Mec-Gar magazines the way to go or should I shell out the additional cash for a pricier brand?
-I am not entirely sure what brands are considered the best holsters are for the shadow 2 (likely shooting production class or limited), but I did see one that appears interesting from Comp-Tac, any strong opinions either way on that?

The only difference between the models is the finish. Grey is a ?painted? type, Black is a different treatment (I can?t think of what?s it?s called right now).

Personal preference re what you like better. No functional difference.

Mecgar mags are fine. You?ll need at least 6.

Re gear I?d suggest getting a belt & mag pouches from the Ben Stoeger Pro Shop and a double layer kydex holster from Red Hill Tactical. This will cover you for Production & Limited.

I?d also recommend getting Ben?s Fundamentals, dryfire & livefire books + some dryfire targets from the Pro Shop while you are there.

Then just start training [emoji41]

Thanks a ton Matt, I actually already have an incredibly nice Battle Belt from Viking Tactical that my Father-in-law gave to me for Christmas with mag carriers already on there. All it is missing is the holster and a gun (I didn't want to use any of my pistols for it).

I use the Double Alpha belt, Ghost mag pouches and a Boss drop hanger with Bladetech holster.  Your belt may not be stiff enough!  I tried the RHT and it was too loose.

Have fun!!!

GET a RED HILL TACTICAL double Kydex holster. Totally worth the wait/$. Solid. Bombproof when you establish the grip on the draw. Can?t say enough good things about the folks at RHT as well.

If you want to go full bore just buy the Cajun Gun Works S-2 kit with bushing. It will give you everything you need to turn it into a monster. Don't do like I did and just buy them one piece at a time and pay 100+ in shipping fees. Probably the best deal I've ever seen for a complete upgrade kit that overhauls every aspect of the gun. Definitely get the bushing as it's low key the best drop in upgrade that instantly makes the gun more precise.

After that just get a grip you like - the stock aluminum grips are very nice looking but aren't very grippy.

As far as the pistol itself, I would recommend...

Dawson thinner FO sight
CGW recoil and hammer springs
Polish the internals

That, and extra magazines is all you really need

My $0.02 would be similar to the other guys, but you may want to consider switching to SAO for the best trigger. IDK if you can run production like that though unless there is a SAO trigger that looks like the stock trigger. Limited is no prob and I'd also add a magwell. If you do CGW SAO it is cheaper than DA/SA parts/package. LOK thin grips and BOSS hanger +.
biased of course, but you made the right decision on the S2. I just don't like the trigger safeties or other BS on the trigger. The undercut and trigger guard reliefs of the S2 fit the hand very nice and the ext. beavertail is nice as well.

97E SAO, 97B, SAR copies

For Production division of USPSA, it has to be DA/SA. You can have SAO and magwell in Limited division.

Shadow 2 is an awesome gun......shoot it and see how you like it, you may be perfectly happy with it as is.
If not go the Cajun route...?..MecGar mags are just fine, they are the ones I own.
I use a Double Alpa belt other brands are good too (CR Speed etc)
I have a Blade Tech holster but many comparable brands out there (Comp-Tac, safariland etc) just be sure they are the correct DOH
mag pouches I have Blade tech carbon fiber but only for the cool looking factor. as long as they are the right caliber pouch they will work for you.
Have fun My set up is awesome. for me.
