New magazines for Kadet. I tried
« on: June 21, 2018, 09:25:46 AM »
Hello all, in a different post where I was "reviewing" a Kadet SP-01 kit, I talked about how much I liked the new poly mags.

Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate the ultra high quality of the original metal Kadet mags, but to load them, I need use the Maglula, at least if I am doing any volume shooting. Sure, you can load them one at a time, but it really is slow.
I actually sent a brand new metal Kadet mag to a speed loading company to 3D print an adapter, but after months, they did nothing, so I asked them to return it. One day, I may print my own adapter.

Anyway, I took an original Kadet kit, and removed the ejector from the barrel assembly ( it is only one very tight pin holding it) and went to the range with the poly mags.
The new poly mags have the ejector molded in place ala Ruger 10/22.

Unfortunately, with the original Kadet 2 kit on, the mags stop short approx 3/16 from seating. Too short to click in. Of course they seat with no slide. If I had more than 2 poly mags ( or if they were readily available, as CZ is out of stock, and based on experience, it can take a year to get back in stock) I would have tried to "smack it home" then view, by the contact marks, what was hitting. But based on the above, I did not try that.

Its a shame, as I was hoping there was a way to use this new mag with the old kit. New mags ( when available) are priced at 35 dollars list price, the metal ones are near 50.

Anyway, if someone has both old and new kits, and wants to experiment, we would all benefit if we can get this to work. Until I get spare poly mags, I will place this experiment on hold.

I hope to be able to solve this one day. My objective is a faster way to load a Kadet or Kadet 2, besides using a Lula.

If none of the above work, I may use an end mill to cut a path for a loading rod, similar to what Advantage Arms or Nelson or Marvel does on the 1911-22 conversion poly mags................

I will update, even if this takes some time......

Be safe

CZ-USA has the new poly SP-01 Kadet mags back in stock, about $35. I just ordered several.

Update....
Mags came back in stock, so I ordered 2 more. What I received were bulk packed, to be clear, the mags were loose in the shipping package, no packaging at all.
They looked like they came out of a kit as they were marked SP-01/Shadow 2

The CZ website lists 2 separate numbers for SP-01 and Shadow 2, but my guess is that any difference is in the embossed lettering on the mag. What I received were "universal" mags that work for both.

This SP-01 adventure is full of surprises. I am mostly surprised what CZ is doing lately. I think the head accountant was promoted to COO?!

I will try to fit one of the plastic mags to the original CZ Kadet ( steel 75) kit..

Stay tuned.................

Happy 4th of July!!!!!!!

I have the SP-01 Kadet kit with the poly mags, which are a pleasure.

But, I also just picked up a factory complete Kadet pistol, with box, target, etc, all matching numbers. Very cool, and I am willing to put up with the Lula loader if that?s what it takes to feed it!
