Suggestions for a backpack range bag?
« on: June 25, 2018, 04:53:28 PM »
I'd like to find a backpack that would lend itself to using a range bag in USPSA

Suggestions?

I've got one of those.  Works great.  More room than I use, even when taking multiple handguns to the range.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I suppose the foam in the bottom will come out?  I'd rather have the open space, and I'd be generally be carrying one, maybe two, pistols.

The foam in the bottom/back is cut to hold up to four pistols.  You can pull the inserts out, put a pistol in that spot (for the range trip), then put the insert back in when your remove the handgun after returning home.  Not sure if the whole piece of foam can be removed.

A really big pistol, like a TS, won't fit in the slots in the foam.  Works fine for the standard full sized CZ's and compacts.  It also has mag pouches inside some of the zipper pockets.

The foam block CAN be removed. But it sort of defeats the purpose of the backpack if it is out. Perhaps a tactical supply shop like Hazard4.com might have what you need.

That's the same backpack that GPS sells as their "Handgunner" bag.  I have this bag.  Just an FYI, if you remove the foam block, over time the top of the backpack will slump down if you keep ammo or other heavy items in the top.  The foam adds rigidity to the bottom of the pack.

All in all, it's a nice pack.  However, if I were to do it again I would probably get their "Tactical Range Backpack: Tall".  The guns go in the side (so you can fit longer barreled guns) and the pack has a rigid frame to keep it from slumping down with weight above.

That is nice...

Primarily, I wanted the two separate compartments, rather than just one deep one.

I like the look of this, but haven't handled one in person;

I have one and used it several matches.  I've been happy with how accommodates my stuff.  Let me know what questions you have.

I actually just purchased the GPS hangunner bag but I won?t be using it until at least next week to give any feedback on it. Sure seems like a nice bag for under $100

Competitive Dynamics MEDIUM range bag if you are doing one or two pistols. I can carry EVERYTHING I need in that bag and access it very easily. Very comfortable to carry as well. A tad pricey but the quality is definitely worth it.

Strong recommendation for GPS tactical bag.   The other GPS bag with the foam insert does not work well for competitive shooting in my opinion.   At a match you have to gun up at the safe table which means not bringing over your whole range bag with ammo or risk a DQ.  The tactical model and the knock off midway along with the more expensive DAA come with pistol bags that you can separate from the range bag.   This is a better arrangement.

I've used the GPS for over two years and it is awesome.  It looks perfect still and gets used weekly all year round.

I was about to order the Allen backpack, but I looked on eBay and won this for $5.  It has three main compartments, including one at the bottom for ammo, several big roomy pockets on the outside, loops for your belt and a rain cover.
