Anyone recently bought a 452 American?

Anyone here recently bought a 452 American in .22? I know where to find them but not sure which place to buy from.

If you?ve purchased a new one in 2018, please tell me where you bought it, how it shoots, and what you think. I love wood and buying a rifle sight unseen is difficult for me to do, playing the ?wood lottery? is something I try to avoid but haven?t seen a single one of these in NC since I started looking (again).

I spent some time yesterday searching for 452 Americans. They're scarce as lips on chickens. Bud's https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=Cz+452+American lists 31 in stock.

I only know of three Americans and they all are Wood Lottery stocks. I have a Grand Finale that's wearing an exceptionally nice piece of Walnut. That can't be expected to be the "norm" though. From talking to others, CZ apparently put some nice Turkish Walnut on all the Americans. Keep in mind though, one man's "nice" may be another man's stick of fire wood. No longer being in production, it's going to extremely hard to find one in a shop that you look over. A call to Bud's would maybe get you an employee willing to pick one for you that you'd would be happy with. It can't hurt and the worse thing would be tell you "No". Good luck.

Yes, never hurts to ask. TechNet Armory has just one but when I asked for a photo they said they don?t open new boxes. Since I?m a return customer I was hoping to get a photo, would?ve paid their higher price as well... oh well.

I will ask pretty please when I make the purchase (wherever it may be) but I understand there are no guarantees. Glad you got a nice looking one, I?m most interested in how it shoots and quality of construction but no harm hoping for it all, right?

I've only had the gun to the Range once. After a few rounds I zeroed it with CCI 40 gr CPRN Mini-Mags and shot one 5 shot group at each distance, here's the results:

10 yds   20 yds   25 yds   30 yds   35 yds   40 yds   50 yds
0.102"   0.222"   0.277"   0.325"   0.232"   0.305"   0.760"

And in all honesty, the 50 yard spread was my fault. Over the next week or so I'll make it back to the Bench with it and wring out some more targets.

As to quality, I'm very well impressed with it. However keep in mind this is one of the Grand Finale rifles and it's obvious the finish is a little extra.

Sounds like you got a winner. Yes, I imagine a lil extra care went into the Grand Finale, I?m pretty confident about getting a good one but love to hear about the experiences that others have had.

Hope your as happy as I have been with mine.
It is an early  LH  model,  ordered right after I read they were available. Serial # in the early 500's
I am not much of a range shooter, nearly all of the thousands of rounds that rifle has fired has been at ground squirrels and the like.
One day at the range while letting centerfire guns cool I  shot a 3/8  inch three shot group at 100  yards using Federal 22LR.
I think that is the only time I have fired that gun at paper farther than  50  yards.
Some of them do shoot.

I love CZ rifles and pistols.  I own three 22lr rifles.  Ultra Lux first, varmint with a factory Boyd's thumbhole stock and a CZ American with a beechwood stock third.  They are all good shooters and nicely made.  The American was the least expensive and by far the best shooter out of the box.  So good, I have done nothing to it because I am afraid it will alter the accuracy.

I have purchased from Bud's, Whittaker's and Kentucky Gun.  All are reputable with great service.  Its just a matter of price and availability.  Bud's and Whittaker's currently have 452's in stock.

Thanks for the well wishes and encouragement. I will definitely post pics and range report at some point but that will no doubt be a while from now. Like many folks, I have a lot of irons in the fire and will need to look hard and be patient to be able to get the scope I have in mind for this one.

One thing I've finally learned over the course of many years is that working hard, being patient, and not stretching things too thin is MUCH more satisfying (and sustainable) than caving into the lusty desire for instant gratification
