P-01
« on: August 12, 2018, 03:39:10 PM »
Hi all,
I have a pro package decocker kit on the way from cgw. I have some experience working on my own guns and have built 1911?s and ar?s. Who has the best how to  install the pro package? Watched a few on YouTube and the once I have seen are fair at best.
Tia!

I don't know of any for installation of the P01, but the tutorials for disassembling the decocker are the most important to familiarize yourself with. The P01 is a pain in the bum to re-assemble from a full strip if you've not done it much before. You're really just doing a disassembly, replacing components, and polishing what needs to get polished.

Here's the pro package going into a 97

Everything except the sear cage is fairly straightforward.  You need something to act as a slave pin for the sear assembly since there are several tiny parts that require patience and no coffee in my system.  Once the gun is disassembled and cleaned up, I can get it all back together in two hours including a break. CGW has slave pins for sale to make this easier on you.  Have some tools--roll pin punches, tweezers, small needle nose, hammer, etc--goes a long way to making the process go easier.

setting the pistol on a roll of 1 1/2" masking tape while driving pins in works real well!

Thanks for the replies guys.  Found it in bits and pieces through different vids. All was easy but the sear cage. Once infound the right video it literally took 5 minutes for the sear.

Which video was the most helpful in handling the sear?

Thank you for this thread.  Give me confidence on whether I should even try this upgrade on an incoming P-01.

I just did the install and found it to be extremely easy. I'd previously polished the gun, so it was just dropping in parts. The only hurdles I had were getting the firing pin roll pin out, and... I guess the new one in. I've heard some people need the disconnector fitted, but mine dropped in without a hitch.

It's fine and definitely better than before, but maybe because I'm coming from an already polished P01 I wasn't too blown out of the water with it. The reset and trigger pull are nicer but it still has quirks that bug me. I don't think I messed anything up, but I have no point of reference on how it should feel. Maybe I'm just being picky because of how over the top everyone's adoration for the kit is.

That being said, I'd still vote for doing the upgrade if you have the money to spare. I like it more than stock, I just don't OH MY GOD FREAKING LOVE it more.

Thanks for this thread! Glad to get pointed to a useful video straight off the bat. My hat always goes off to the folks that have the patience to make a good disassembly/reassembly video. It's hard enough getting everything into place normally, and then add trying not to block the camera and keeping everything in focus. Ugh, not for me.

Guess I should finish this out. Did a pro package with the trijicon sights from CGW and obviously new grips. The gun is awesome. Installing the kit and doing some polishing was fairly simple once I found the above video. The sear cage can be a bit tricky but not difficult if you have the proper tools and the PATIENCE.lol
I would put a pic up but cant figure out how to. I have it saved to my desktop but can't figure out how to get it here.

It is a carry piece and it is on me close to 100 hours a week so the gun isn't perfect but she is a shooter.
