I grew up carrying a Winchester .30-30 in the woods and never once felt under-gunned. IMO our society has lost appreciation for just how fast one can deliver, aimed, accurate fire, and keep the lever-action topped off in the process.
There is little difference between a lever-action rifle with side-loading (This is where Henry Arms misses the point), and a 12 gauge shotgun with essentially the same loading parameters and nobody (to generalize) seems to think a shotgun is obsolete.
The nice thing about lever-action rifles is precisely what many probably see as weakness...they don't NEED a detachable magazine! They are robust, slender, compact, and highly reliable.
