Please recommend a gun lock for the Bren 805
« on: August 27, 2018, 04:13:10 PM »
CZ newbie here. Keeping my new Bren in a locked carbine bag at the moment, but I don't really trust that to keep out a determined person. Until I can pick out a safe, what is a good cable lock or other lock for a Bren 805? Has anyone tried one of those AR-15 locks that looks like an orange magazine and locks into the breech? A bit wary of those damaging my gun but it seems like it would be extremely secure.

Is the point to keep the gun safe from kids or to secure it from theft?

If it?s from theft, then a locking cabinet or a locking gun rack would be better than what you have now. Just google those two and you?ll get a ton of hits.

If you have a few hundred to spend and want another piece of furniture or decor, google hidden gun storage. Lots of options that would fit a rifle.

A safe is going to be your best bet but even that won?t even keep out the most determined individual. These all deter theft and make it less worth it for the snatch and grab burglaries. Best bet is to have an alarm and insurance to cover all bases.

Kid safe is #1, but my kids are young so I doubt they would be able to get into the locked carbine bag. I only own a pistol and the 805 so I was planning to get a safe or something if I get anything beyond those two.

Will definitely look into the hidden storage option. Thank you!

A simple cable lock will work just to keep unauthorized little fingers from firing it. I read this post and took this bad cell phone picture to show you what I mean - the blue cable lock came with one of my CZ pistols. It will work just fine.

As a THEFT deterrent, not even - a person with EMT shears can probably go through that thing. Hiding is one option, a cheap gun locker is another. They aren't much good against someone determined with time and a hammer, but they might last long enough for your average tweaker to give up to steal the TV instead. Get a bio hazard warning sig for the front, "Warning - Fossilized Fecal Matter" or something, to throw them off. :D

A real safe is the best form of theft deterrent, but REAL safes cost THOUSANDS, not like the high speed residential security containers everyone sells as safes. A good RSC from a reputable company like Fort Knox, bolted down, is a great peace of mind.

That was more what I had in mind as an immediate solution. I have one of those with a key lock for my VP9 but it seems shorter than that. Do you happen to know what cable length that is?

Another option when your kids are very young is to simply store the bolt in a different location they can't access.  Also, unless you are counting on it for self defense then it is a good practice in case of theft.

I use one of the orange mag locks (GunVault AR-01 MagVault), never had an issue with it. Seems secure to me.
