Cz p-07 and p-09
« on: August 28, 2018, 03:45:50 AM »
Hi everyone, I'm new on this forum and in need of alittle bit of advice!
I'm a cz fan and generally always have been my father is a cz owner and my uncle, I'm 19 and would like to buy my own firearm, I would like some opinions on the cz p-07 duty and p-07 tactical, witch one would be best for weekend shooting maybe in time a competition or two and general day to day carry and self defense, would a p-09 be an option too??

Kind regards Gareth

The P-09 would be better for competition and the P-07 better for carry.
I have carried my P-09 but it is bigger.
My P-07 is not a Duty model, it is a 2nd gen.

Gareth--I have both.  I got the P-09 first (two actually) and was late getting a P-07.  At the time I was shooting bullseye matches every month with the P-09 in our local matches.  The P-09 is excellent, but seems very large in your hands.  But I won a lot of bullseye matches with that gun and made a lot of Youtube videos shooting out to 200 yards with excellent results.

Our local Academy Sports had a P-07 so I bought one, thinking it would be just a carry/trainer gun.  Problem is that I loved the size, so I began shooting that pistol a bunch at the range myself.  Then I moved a red dot from a 75B over to the P-07 and shot it some more.  Then, just for kicks, I shot the P-07 in a bullseye match and had high score for centerfire with the 4" plastic gun.  I've shot it out to 100 yards with excellent results.  With a red dot, the distance between the sights doesn't matter, compared to the larger gun.  From a practical standpoint, not much difference in accuracy.  My recommendation, get the P-07 first, and, if you want a larger gun later trade for it or buy a P-09.  You might be plenty happy with the P-07 for IDPA matches, for example.

There are dozens of videos on YouTube if you are interested.  Mine are at joemustang99.  https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7GbOFIiTV0xt-yUxqYvFX6tek_pEmLes and https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7GbOFIiTV0zywDb1XrQ2FMDvFsgCtXkF

My centerfire match gun now is a 97B"E" (heavier and .45 caliber holes) and I shoot the P-07 more than the P-09 since I got the 97 for bullseye.  There are no bad choices in CZ land.

You can buy two P07's the same day from the same shop.

Chances are, one will be more accurate than the other and one will run longer without breaking than the other.  They are machines, like cars, lawn mowers, refrigerators, etc.

I carry a P07.  It's accurate, reliable, feels good in my hand, etc.  The P09 is all of those + bigger.  Longer, taller, heavier.  Longer is not so much an issue as "taller".  Taller means the pistol grip/magazine stick out more towards the rear (I wear it IWB at about 3 to 4 o'clock) and is harder to hide under a loose shirt/jacket than the shorter P07.

Is my P09 "more accurate" than my P07?  I'd have to say it is - barely.

I also carry a P01 Omega at certain times and I like it.  But the P07 is #1 for me.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

The P-07 shoots as good as the P-09 but at the range the P-09 seems a little more accurate to me, just me.

I got the P09 first and it soon became my favorite pistol. I then bought a P07, sent it to CGW they did their internal magic and milled the slide for RMR.

Now the P07 is my go to pistol, it fits my hand that little bit better than the P09.

The P07 action after a visit to CGW is the best double action I have ever used. It is so good that it has made me totally rethink how I use the pistol for real.

I used to carry the Hi Power as my issue pistol and with the old small safeties, it was hard to get it just right every single time. So I started with the pistol cocked and locked. Pistol gets put in hard sided holster and then I would take it off safety. Years later was talking with a friend who was SAS in some hard lands and times and he told me he did the exact same thing.

So time moves forwards and we got Glocks, great pistol but it has no soul. I also would never carry it just shoved into my pants, which can be a way of carrying a pistol on deep cover missions. That way you just dump the gun and mags and your clean.

Enter my CGW P07, I feel 100% secure with it with out a holster carried IWB.

It gives me instant pull the trigger, no need to worry about safety or any thing else. So I satarted working at 25 yards shooting first round DA, then following up SA. Bottom line it works great.

Now if CZ would make a pistol with the P09 barrel length and P07 grip.

I have the P-09 and two P-07s.  I shoot my P-09 better but the P-07 is not far behind.

For your intended uses, I would recommend the 7 first and see how you like it.  Like was stated earlier, if you want something bigger after trying running it for a while, go the P-09 route.

The P-07 carries much better for me and still is a bleeped good shooter.

Let us know what you decide!

In early 2018, I had a Glock 17 for home defense and a P-07 for carry.  I decided to sell the Glock and get a second CZ for home defense... considered getting a P-09, but ended up getting a second P-07.  Now I have a light-mounted P-07 for carry / home defense and another P-07 for backup / dry fire / range practice / test platform.  If I was going to buy another full-sized semi-auto, it would be a P-09.  Just for purposes of having the same manual arms, and compatibility of parts and accessories, it makes good sense.

Seems a lot of folks have 2 of one model and one of the other.
I have 1 P-09 and 2 P-07's, these pistols run like a well engineered and machined piece of equipment.
As said I would get the P-07 first and then a P-09 when funds/pistol is available.
And to say again they are both very fine pistols.

I bought my DUTY P07 in .40 S&W before I knew no one made .357 SIG barrels for them.  Then, after shooting it, I wouldn't have messed with it anyway.

The two "dropped" shots are my fault.  Loads are pretty fast 135 grain Nosler hollow points over a compressed charge of Blue Dot.  Thirteen rounds, off hand at 12 yds. with the original sights.  The low left shot was trying to hit a big bumble bee that flew across the target (instinct/reaction/crazy)

This gun shoots so well I decided to take a chance on another CZ.  After watching Joe L's videos on long range shooting of his P09 9MM I bought one.  The darn thing shoots even better than the P07.

That led me to another CZ, a P09 in .40 S&W.  Its' not quite as good as the P07 in .40 S&W, but close.

I may yet buy myself a 9MM P07.  Just have to have the right opportunity (model/price).
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

since you said you wanted something to carry the p07 is gonna be a better all around option just because of size.    I only have a p09 and I love it and shoot it well, but it is for my nightstand and the range.

I just got a P-07 a few days ago and once I get confident with the double action and the DA/SA transition it will probably be my main Carry gun.
I haven?t fired a shot yet but it feels great in my hands. Can?t wait to hit the range with it.
