Base pad for 10 round magazines
« on: September 26, 2018, 01:46:09 PM »
Looking at more magazines for the P-01 (California, so 10 round max)

The 10 round mags for the SP-01 are half the cost, which is appealing. I understand that they are longer and would stick out further, creating a gap.

I see that the base pads can be changed to close that gap and make it more visually attractive, however, it looks like the base pads for this purpose only work on the standard capacity SP-01 magazines, and not the 10 round version.

Is that correct? No way to use the longer 10 round SP-01 mags on the P-01 without having the "gap?"

Thanks for any info

The Mec-Gar 10 rounders will always stick out a bit. The factory 10 rounds are the same size for both the full size and compact, but with a different base plate to extend it to "full size". So find out which one you're seeing for half price... it's usually the mec-gars which will always be poking out, but if you've found a sale for the factory you can convert them for about 10 bucks.

The big tell is the mec-gar is metal all the way to the flare of the base plate, while the factory 10 round magazines have a collar of plastic that comes up as part of the base plate.

I have a couple of those baseplates from Greg Cote for use with 16-round mags my P-01s, but I don't know if they would work with low capacity magazines. I'm under the impression that the hole in the baseplates of the low capacity magazines is in a slightly different location than the hole in the higher capacity mags...Sorry I can't be more helpful.
