Archon Type B pistols
« on: October 01, 2018, 12:13:55 PM »
I spent a lot of time looking these over at Shot show last Jan and I ended up signing up to be a dealer for these handguns.  I have had them since Sept 10 th and right away initially there were some negative reviews by the youtubers.  I don't base my decisions to buy any type of a firearm solely on online reviews.  I spend my own money on ammo ,firearms etc and then I try them out and make up my own mind.  For the previous two Sundays I invited shooters at my local range Easton Fish and Game to help me break this handgun in and look for problems.  The first Sunday we shot PMC ,S&B, Winchester 124 gr nato and PPU   all ball ammo for a total round count of 570 round non stop with no initial cleaning of the firearm.  Had 4 rounds of S&B with hard primers not light strikes they fired on the second try except one ,the last round would not go off even in a hammer fired gun.   I called Archon the next morning just to let know what I found, they offered to take the gun back since others had reported some light strikes  and get it back to me in about week.   I said no to that and I would be torture testing it the following weekend. Yesterday at Easton Fish and Game from 10 am to 12:57 we shot 1263 rounds non stop with zero failures zero feeding or ejection issues and zero light strikes.  We used 18 different brands of ammo ,six were self defense ammo, Hornady Critical Defense and Critical  duty , Lehigh Defense Penetrators, American Gunner, Speer Gold Dots ETC.   Ammo types ranged from 65 Gr plastic practice ammo to 147 gr hollow points.   I got as many different ammo types and brands that I could find locally,it was not cheap over $600 for ammo for the last two Sundays,my wallet is hurting.  We stopped firing at 12:57 because we ran out of ammo. The gun rocks plain and simple ,i like the trigger, and I like the Ergonomics of this one, it won't be for every price is up there but you get what you payed for and it comes with 4 mags.  Glad I did my own testing

These are very interesting Pistols.  Some of the early production Pistols had some light strike issues and current production seem to have that sorted out.

Mac's first two videos were negative and now he loves it since it passed the gauntlet test. I like the one out of the three that I have because it is well tested now and functions beautiful.  However I can't say that the other two work. If I shoot them then I devalued them and have to sell them as used.  After speaking with my Archon sales rep he said that there was a small batch with striker problems and they were taking care of it . He said if I wanted more pistols it would be little bit till the next batch arrived in the USA.  I have to decide on shooting the other two. I like gun , very accurate minimal muzzle flip and recoil. pretty much the first batch is sold out to dealers and many of those dealers who listed them online are already sold out. I choose to shoot the crap out of one of mine so that I could be sure it had no issues. I still have not put mine up for sale at least I have done extensive testing with a wide variety of ammo . Not sure want I am going to do with the pistols at this point. I do like shooting it however. The only mod I did was to add an orange fiber optic rod to the front sight so I could see it clearly.

I like my "gauntlet" better, more accurate for real daily use. ;)
Never heard of Archon.

As long as the company gets the issue sorted out with that batch these seem to be nice. I?m waiting for the Laugo Alien, personally... But I ahot one of the original Stryke pistols and they are nice. I was shooting a Tactical Sport to compare it to and I outshot the instructor who owned the Stryke. That being said, again I think this pistol is pretty cool and nice to shoot.

Armouredman exactly my thoughts , that's why I shot the crap out it ,I needed to see for myself what it could do and what problems it might have.

Why the hell hasn't MAC put a cz75b thought the gauntlet yet?  its the 1 glaring omission.  He did p226 twice, 92fs (and px4 for Beretta fans with short fingers), and of course... a glock. But still no cz 75b and its every bit as iconic as those.

Just a quick update on the Archon Type B 2300 rounds total in 3 weekends of shooting, 1263 of that occurred last weekend non stop firing. Today was just shooting it for fun, final thoughts this pistol shoots very nice  ,easily controlled , easy to double tap , easy to clean .  It's a keeper and letting others shoot sold all the rest ,but one. I don't expect I will have that one for long. The only thing left to do is to Cerakote one.

Good to hear. Honest Outlaw got his fixed. Archon said it was a batch of bad springs that impacted some of the first run. It sounds like their service was excellent and they?re taking care of any of these very quickly.

Thanks again for doing your own testing and sharing that with us. You and the other vendors that are active on this forum bring a huge value to our community.

Probably because it's beaten gauntlets worse than he can come up with already...;)

i bet it performs up there with the HK45 and glock, better than the sig p226 and 92fs.  Maybe he will get around to it next year....

I like to do my own testing ,because then I know for sure how something performs and I am not relying on the manufactures word, the reality is that they want to move product and make money.  i have also bought some lemons in the past. sometimes you win and sometimes you don't .  This one has a lot of potential. I will keep shooting it and post back if I have any issues.
