kadet failure to fire
« on: February 23, 2019, 10:47:30 AM »
MY kadet was not firing about 2 rounds per magazine. So I took out the firing pin cleaned the channel made sure there was no excess oil in there and reinstalled the firing pin.  Went to the range and it didn't  fire at all, and barely a mark on the brass.  So I went home and took the firing pin back out and noticed it was upside down.  I rotated it to the correct position, flat side up.  Went back to the range and still failure to fire and almost no marks on the brass. Also when I read instruction about removing the firing pin it said to remove a pin that holds the firing pin in place.  I didn't, they only thing holding the firing pin in place is the firing pin retention spring and retainer.
And please I would appreciate any tips or help with this issue.  I believe all the springs are factory springs I have not changed any.  However I purchased the gun used just for a host for my kadet. Also I believe the firing pin in it is the extended firing pin.  It has a chiseled look.   I've tried to purchase a new firing pin and spring but no one has them available.  Does anyone have one they would sell to me?

Thanks for any help
Pauli

Has your hammer spring been changed?

 First thing I would try:
Remove the slide and push on the rear of the firing pin until it stops. Does it protrude from the breach face?

You mentioned excess oil. Try putting it together dry. A firing pin doesn't need to be oiled.

If the gun came with an extended firing pin, then it may have a kit from CZ Custom or Cajun in it.  Pull one of the grips and look at the
main spring, and then tell us what color it is.

Hiya, light strikes avg 50 percent with a 13 lb mainspring, 20 percent with a 15 lb mainspring, and basically zero using 17 to 22 lb mainsprings. Try that first as your firing pin is prolly fine. What sourse are you using that tells you there is a pin that needs removing before your firing pin can be removed.
I'd imagine the cadet kit is downloadable via internet and don't think you will find such a pin. Those wooden q tips, that are to tight to leave cotton in the gun are good to run down the firing pin channel when cleaning and pins out. What happens to those two light strikes when you drop the hammer on them the second time??  So good luck, but if ya read the entire kadet post since 2002, you will find vast agreement the cadet needs 17lb mainspring to make .22 go bang. Be well.

Yeah, the firing pin in the Kadet should have no other retention but the end plate which is also where it gets its correct orientation from. Maybe double check down on the breech face end to make sure none of the gunk you were trying to remove didn?t sort of wedge itself into the skinny end of the firing pin channel. It gets kinda small and a cotton swab just pushes stuff deeper in. Might be able filter a pipe cleaner through it. There can be a of of crud collecting around there.
Alcohol, tobacco, and firearms should be the name of a convenience store, not a government agency.

Lighter FP spring stolen from the ball pen allows to work more reliably with 13Lb main spring. And clean breech face from all compressed residue.

First of all, thank you for all of your responses.  I had this kit on my cz 85 combat with a 13lb main spring, and had about 1 or 2 light strikes per magazine, then would fire on the second strike.  So I purchased a cz75 as a permanent host to keep my kadet kit on.  It had an extended firing pin with a lighter firing pin spring.
When I push the firing pin all the way forward it does push past the breach face.  There was not excessive oil in the firing pin chamber, I just thought it might be gunked up or something but it was clean.   But now for some reason it doesn't fire at all. It's difficult  and expensive for me  to go to the range each time to try it again, so I brought it to a local gunsmith to see what he can find.
Thank you for your suggestions I will let you know what the gunsmith finds.

Sorry you couldn't figure it out, but...I just had a thought.

Is your Kadet kit a Kadet, or Kadet II, and is the 75 an Omega trigger?

In what ever CZ you put the Kedet kit on you will need at least a 17# hammer spring.

I don't think the operator ever got to try the 17lb spring before it stopped firing at all, which sounds trigger spring related. Im sure his gunsmith got it sorted out,but do wish Every Kadet kit owner would receive a note, "please use 17lb main spring before first shooting outing". Thus removing that sinking feeling of hammer drop and no pop. Cheers.

Really hoping to hear back on this one as I am having the same difficulty..

Where does one come up with a 17 pound spring?
