So I Got a New CSA VZ.58
« on: March 01, 2019, 10:51:59 AM »
First, thanks to the community here for the help in deciding what my new toy should be.  I found my rifle at Atlantic Firearms and it ended up costing me within $100 of the rifle I sold to finance it.  I took it out yesterday for the first time and am very happy with it.  Years ago I had a Norinco underfolder and later picked up a Chinese SKS, which have been my only exposure to 7.62x39 rifles.  The VZ is much nicer to shoot and the build quality is excellent.  The only problem I'm having is that I feel like I should do something to it to make it mine - I thought about an ergo grip but the one on there is really pretty comfortable.  I like the look of the beaver barf furniture but I'm thinking it would add weight and it's really just for looks.  Maybe a folding stock, but the one on it now works really well.  Maybe a muzzle brake/flash suppressor, but it shoots fine without one and the muzzle nut does look pretty cool.  I'd go for a bayonet right now if they came with black scales, but maybe the beaver barf wouldn't look too dumb.  You see my problem.  Only thing about it that concerned me in shooting it is that the front handguard did get really hot.  Not a bad problem really.  So all I really need to get is additional magazines.  And a lot more ammo.  Any other suggestions?

Welcome the the VZ-58 club - I ended up with 3 different VZ-58s because I love the platform so much!  If you have your receiver drilled and tapped for an optic mount, you can look at getting an optic setup for your VZ-58.  I also found a "Tactical" mag release and bolt release that allow me to use my trigger finger to release both the mag and bolt - They were pricey, but were a very nice addition!  I will try to post some pics when I get home to show you examples of what I did to make the rifles my own.

Great suggestion!  By the way, Dead Air is in the process of having a run of their muzzle devices machined for VZ-58s.  Just waiting for the machine shop to have free time to process a batch.  Great brakes that have been very effective on my other rifles!

I actually contacted YHM, and they will make them in 14 RH. If we got a group buy going, it may be cheaper.

I wondered how long it'd take Dead Air to pay attention to the 58, seemed like a natural progression after the Wolverine suppressor to make sure the 58 guys didnt miss out on the fun lol Im also a fan of the PWS FSC brakes.  If youve got a rifle that likes to beat you up,  the FSC will tame it right down, once again though they only advertise 14x1LH for AK

Cool, if they did a run it'd be good reason for me to have my Dtech get the extension removed and repin/weld that to it

I forgot to mention, the beaver barf furniture really doesnt weigh much, its actually fairly thin stuff, and its hollow not a solid stock but it is still very strong so if it fits you well it is worth it to keep it.  The old metal folding stocks on the other hand, for me personally are not very comfortable and I, like many others had to wrap paracord around it, but it is nice being able to fold the stock and make a small rifle even more compact.

Watch "Hostage Escape VZ-58" on YouTube
https://youtu.be/XqlsQswisg8

I ran the VZ 58 with beaver barf furniture here, it is a stock rifle minus the left side charging handle. Scored 100% with pistol and rifle.  They are very underrated rifles and even compare well by todays standards
