Best avenue too take for Milling a 07 slide and mounting a Red Dot

One thing to keep in mind with dot size is how bright the optic can go.

For example Deltapoint Pros can get VERY bright, so I like the 2.5 MOA dot.

Vortex dots don't seem to get quite as bright, so I prefer bigger dots with heir optics. Just something to keep in mind when thinking about dot sizes.




.....at the end of the day, if you're not getting anything bigger than like 6.5 MOA....you'll not notice the dot size that much. You're not using these things to shoot 100 yards. 25 yards and inside, you won't really care/notice the dot size.

I actually like the dpp in 7.5 moa because of the reticle, big and easy to use close up and the tip of the triangle is a great aiming point for fine work far away. But anyway for your first one I wouldn't sweat the dot size too much but I'd stay in the 2-6.5 range. Sometimes u see an rmr for weirdly cheap and it is a non battery one or a 9 or 13 moa or some other weird version. Just pay attention to the stats. I'd also throw the holosun 507c out there, it fits the rmr footprints and you can get it for cheaper and upgrade to the rmr down the line if you want to

Very cool pic's and good info guys, thanks! One question I do have is how do these things mount on your gun? Are they directly with screws through the top, up through the bottom or do you need a mounting "plate" for each optic? I was looking at the Aimpoint ACRO & it shows nothing special for the 07, it shows mounting plates for the P10/Shadow but not the 07! What about the RMR, or even the Holosun? Thanks for any tips, ideas & info, guys!

If you are just looking to try it out just get a dovetail mount, cheapest option and lowest commitment. Whatever optic you buy if you don't like it someone here will buy it... Quickly. Just don't shoot it once or twice and give up, getting used to the dot takes reps and time watch Aaron cowan from sage dynamics videos to get the gist of the basics

My cz p10c is the suppressor ready model with suppressor height sight and I was planning on just putting the red dot in front of the OEM sights but it doesnt look right. So now I'm thinking I will get a new dovetail done. Just need to figure out what's better iron sights in front of red dot or behind. I would like to ask here who is the most cost effective but also quality to do this work?

Primary machines milled my slide on my po9 for a Vortex Viper.
And they cerakoted the slide titanium, it looks great, plus the optic mounted in the slide is tight tight tight.

I?ve been running an RMR on my 07 for years. Mark Hausel at L&M Precision did the work. I?m also running a Shield RMSc on a Walther PPS M2 that was milled in at the factory. I?ve been really impressed with the Shield RMSc. They are very low profile. No need for suppressor sights. I know Mark H is set up to mill them.

Just my .02 cents.....always run an CZ adapter plate. That way you are not committed to only one particular model of dot. Get the slide cut for the plate and get the plate for the dot you want at the time. The CZC custom plates sit very low and look nice.

If you have good eyes, don?t go any bigger than 2.5moa on the delta point pro. Even on very bright sunny days and me wearing sunglasses, I still don?t have it anywhere close to as bright as it will go. They get extremely bright. Only my opinion, but I?d stick with a Delta Point, Holosun 507C, or a Burris FF. The Burris seems to be the most durable (not counting the Trijicon).

On slide milling.....do some shopping around. Some of those bigger name shops charge an insane amount just to mill a slide for a plate. Some of them upwards of $400 or more. Some of the guns don?t even cost that much to begin with. I just mailed off a Shadow 2 slide today to be milled for a plate for a DPP and get some slide lightening to make Carry Optics weight in USPSA. Total charge.....$150 and he?s done countless numbers of them and provides lots of pics of his work. No doubt that Primary Machine does beautiful work, but not everyone is willing to pay that much.

My experience with dots.

Some people see different colors better.  I can see the amber dots better than the green dots.  Some people say they can see green better than amber.  Try, before you buy, and see which ones work best for you.

With iron sights you have to line up three things.  The front sight, the rear sight and the front sight on the target.  With the dot you just put the dot on the target.

With iron sights you really need to focus on that front sight which ends up making the rear sight and target kind of "fuzzy."  With the dot you focus on the target.  The dot is fuzzy (is for me anyway as my eyes are 62 years old now) but the dot is still easy to put on the target.

With the dot, you don't have to have it centered in the lens to hit your target.  I've done this: 

Dot in the left side of the lens but on the target and squeeze the trigger.
Dot in the top of the lens but on the target and squeeze the trigger.
Dot in the right side of the lens but on the target and squeeze the trigger.
Dot in the bottom of the lens but on the target and squeeze the trigger.
Dot in the center of the lens but on the target and squeeze the trigger.

You still get a nice group as long as you have the dot in the same place on the target for each trigger squeeze.

Two bullets in the bottom/center hole.  The P07 and P09 will (both of them) put bullets so close together (when I'm able to do my part) that I'm wondering how I missed the whole piece of paper.  Until I take the next shot and see that hole get just a little bit bigger.



Lot's of people don't like new things.  Some new things are worth embracing and learning to use well.

I was thinking the same thing at first, but I believe his comment was towards milling and lightening a Shadow2 slide.  That DOES cost $400 at Primary Machine...
