Redding Big Boss 2, Do They Catch 99.5% Of The Primers?
« on: August 31, 2019, 10:03:30 AM »
I recently moved to a smaller house, three car garage to a two car garage.  And now I don't have the space for a loading bench like I had before.  So a little consolidation is in order and the Herters Super Model 3 (it couldn't catch a primer to save it's soul) needs to be retired as well as a Lee Challenger (it was bought only for it's ability to catch primers, nearly 100%).  If you haven't caught on, I hate stepping on spent primers.  I'd rather step on a Lego than a spent primer!

I've been looking for a new single stage press, and one that catches nearly 100% of the spent primers.  I came across the Redding Big Boss 2 and from what I can gather it catches a very high percentage of spent primers, or it is worthless in that category.

Does anyone have experience with the Redding Big Boss 2 press and it's ability to catch primers?  If so, what is your opinion of the Big Boss 2?

Thank you in advance for your input.

Does Big Boss2 have hollow ram? If so should be great. My Big Boss works fine got a 3D printed catcher from guy on Facebook who makes them works great. Name is Steve something you can find him or someone who makes catchers if you need a better one than factory.

The Big Boss 2 does have the hollow ram.  But if it doesn't work I'll look at an after market solution to catch the primers.

Thank you

My son bought a Redding Big Boss II with the hollow ram and he assures me that it catches every single primer. The same ram is also found on the Redding T7 turret press.

There is a fitting at the bottom of the ram onto which you can attach a 3/8" ID hose leading to a milk jug or other large container under the bench. That hose will mean you'll never need to touch, collect or breathe the spent primer or spent primer smut coming out of the brass case.

Although he has a LNL and now a 650, he's loading all his rifle on the Big Boss and absolutely loves it. He's mounted it on a Inline Fab raised mounting frame (on sale this weekend) which removed all rocking and bench flex.
