Glock 17,19, & 22 gen 3 frames
« on: November 02, 2019, 04:19:51 AM »
Been looking at a couple Glock frame lots. They have about 5 in each lot. Stripped, has only the locking block , not poly 80.  Depending on price of lot I can get a complete slide and complete lower kit for $300 for 1 setup. Used LEO Glocks go for about $390. I'm just guessing that's a g-vg price. Thinking of building one for myself and selling/trading the rest. My question is, is it worth it? Am I off on the price for a build like this? Any advice is appreciated. Working towards that CZ. Thanks

I have seen used gen 3’s in the $250-300 range locally. Are you doing this for a fun project or because you think you can save money?  I recently picked up a used gen 5 17 for $300 myself so the deals are out there if you don’t feel like going through all that extra work.

Well, one is a lot of 7 for $215 guarantees 1 17 and 1 19 and the rest a random mix of the 2. The other is a lot of 5 for $230 it is a random lot of gen 3 17s and 22s. Both lots have the lock blocks. I can get everything I need to build them for $300. This includes custom cut slides, springs for reduced trigger pull, reduced recoil springs, and improvements to the trigger feel and reduced excess travel,

if I'm in a good mood I may decide to polish the feed ramp and other surfaces to smooth out the trigger pull and hammer travel. Since all the parts are new, they may feel a little gritty or tight. Been a long time since I've had my files and dremel out.

I may be able to get the slide assemblies and lower kits for $225-$275 each if I negotiate with them since I'm buying 5-7 lots. That means I'll have less than $350 in each. They won't be stock. But not high end either. They'll be decent looking, hopefully great-excellent shooters.

I also thought about adding night sights or buying slides with micro red dot cut outs, but not sure. My plan is MISS. You know, make it simple stupid. My thinking is to keep one sell/trade the rest for a CZ tactical SP 01. But I don't have clue one if it's worth it. I'm fine with breaking even if it gets me to the CZ. But I don't want to loose money. If it's not worth it then I may as well charge it or finance it. But hoping to not go that way.

If they are built the way I describe what could I reasonably sell them for? Not looking to get rich, just a means to an end. Thanks for your advice

do it.  you WON'T lose.  FYI you can send a STRIPPED of everything, Glock slide into Glock for new sights and they WILL fill it with all new FREE parts (new striker, extractor, end plate, bearing, everything) for just the cost of the sights.  ($22 for steel dots or $59 for night sights).  They pay return shipping for that price too.  They ONLY do this for OEM slides.  download and fill out their warranty work page .pdf.  The instructions are on the form.  DO NOT ASK FOR THE FREE PARTS!!!!  They do it out of the kindness of their hearts.  I've also been gifted FREE recoil spring assemblies when sending them a slide before.  I've done, I think, 6 of them now.

WOW!!! Now I have to ask, where's a good place for inexpensive oem slide assmblies? Or is it better to buy them in parts? I'm asking because may decide to build 1-2 with oem parts. The rest would be custom aftermarket.

Been researching what calibers I can put in these. So far I've discovered of course 9mm and .40. Would be nice if I could build a 10mm or .45. Are all their poly frames equal? Or are some weaker or simply designed to limit caliber. I know about 1911s. A lot has happened since I've been out of guns. Should have stayed informed. I would've known many guns increased 2-3x in price and custom parts and work bring a premium.

Even broken guns sell well. There was an FIE TZ in 9mm I believe. You could see the wear. Most the bluing was gone. Not sure what final price was, last I saw was $140. I almost bought it to fix and sell but I couldn't find one in restored condition. Something like that would've cost $50-$75 in late 80s early 90s. The seller said sometimes the trigger didn't work. Sounded like a flat spot, broken part/spring in trigger mech. or hammer.

Bought some new stones. Working on getting some riffler files. Mines used up. My stones are broken into a billion pieces. Someone stuck a motorcycle trans on top of the box they were in. Just my luck the stones were on top. My bleep gunsmith screwdrivers are gone. But I have my punches, drifts, drill bits, tap and die, and my hammers. Got a bunch of other stuff just needs cleaning.

Made a couple bench blocks out of wood and that cutting board plastic. The wood ones crumbled. The plastic one separated and the magnets are gone. Debating building or buying. Found one for $6 on Mcarbo.

Another side effect of insomnia is rambling or not knowing when to end a post.
