This isn't just about guns.

They are proposing laws that could make it illegal for me to show my kids who to shoot, how to clean/work on their guns.

Laws that would increase the governor's term from 4 years to 8 years (currently 4 years with no re-election/consecutive term allowed).

Laws that would double the amount of signatures required to initiate a recall process for the politicians.

Laws that would eliminate single family housing zoning in the state (to allow low income housing developments right next door to the exclusive/high dollar neighborhoods - talk about destroying their tax base, when property values drop who will they blame the drop in tax revenue on?)

Laws that affect hunting with dogs.

Raising the grand larceny amount of $500 to $2000.

Allowing prisoners in the jails to vote.

Automatically registering to vote anyone that gets a VA driver's license.

Allowing anyone/everyone to use absentee ballots.

Forcing the state electoral votes to be cast for the candidate that wins the popular vote (and now you know why they want any/every possible dim/lib/prog/socialist to be able to vote, whether they are currently breathing or not.)

The list goes on, I've got some stuff to do (painting a bed room).

It's an outright attempt to take over VA for good and destroy a way of life here.  They want everyone in the state to live their lives in the manner they see fit.  After all, they are better and smarter than all us regular people, right?

This isn't just about guns.

It's never been about guns though, has it. You summed it up in your closing paragraph.

Right.

It's your government. Your state. Vote. Be heard.

And the battle rages on. www.foxnews.com/politics/virginia-city-official-brings-ar-15-style-rifle-to-council-meeting-triggering-some-colleagues
The twitter responses after the article are what you'd expect from the left but the one from gun guy Colion Noir is good food for thought and he is correct in saying the only anti gun people who will be at the rally in Virginia are the government and they will have guns.

The best, most reasoned, article I have read so far on the Virginia situation.

The Virginia Attorney General just announced the withdrawal of Virginia from its reciprocity agreements with most states regarding Concealed Carry Permits.

Pretty sure this comes from an article published in 2015.

Earl, you are right.

Back in 2015, AG Herring withdrew from the agreements with 25 other states, but apparently the Republican legislature re-instated them by 2016.

But what is new is the a Progressive from Northern Virginia, Dan Hellmer, has introduced legislation to give Herring back the authority to withdraw from the reciprocity agreements currently in place.

See https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/virginia-gun-proposal-puts-concealed-carry-agreements-with-other-states-in-jeopardy

Best bet for Virginians who want to have concealed carry privileges in other states is to obtain a Utah non-resident concealed carry permit (from one of the license Utah instructors here in Virginia).  Utah permits enjoy reciprocity witha large number of other states.   https://bci.utah.gov/concealed-firearm/reciprocity-with-other-states/

I think the best bet for Virginians is going to be to have some recall elections and defeat this nonsense otherwise they won't have carry privileges in their own state regardless of the permit they hold. Personally I think in the warped liberal minds of those perpetrating this legislation they think if they revoke reciprocity that will stop any insurgence of out of stater's who might be inclined to help out our embattled brethren in Virginia. If it comes to that for myself I can say they are wrong. I hope it doesn't come to that but if we want to keep this country we may be witnessing events that will force us to make some decisions. They really do need to stop poking the bear.

What every person in every other state needs to recognize is that Virginia is doing this to show they can.  And every state that falls under democrat rule will do exactly the same.  This is a nationwide problem.

SI VIS PACEM PARRABELLUM, remember, these types of folks are the kind that think if they talk nice and don't make sudden moves, the bear won't hurt them.  The kind that go camping in the woods with no gun and believe if they don't bother the bears the bears won't bother them.

Yep I agree. Thing is with these people as being evidenced by northam's actions is they always have reasons why we don't need our guns but they will certainly have theirs to keep us under control.

Most of them won't openly say that they look down on the rest of us.

Every now and then one of them let's their true feelings slip out, like that democratic senator (don't remember if it was an old guy from NY or MI, now) who said it.  Some asked him about his continued support for anti gun legislation and he said people didn't need guns to protect themselves.  When the questioner pointed out the armed security personnel surrounding the senator he replied that of course he needed armed security, he was different than the person asking the question.

The legislature in VA is pushing a number of bills that are aimed at "downstate" and conservative, rural, working class people.  Guns are just the first issue to be tackled by the Progressives in Virginia.

When someone says "school shooting," a lot of otherwise well-intentioned people (e.g., the soccer moms of NoVa) have been told the answer is "gun control," which somehow translates into taking guns away from law-abiding citizens.  Those are the votes the Progs harnessed in the last election, and the people they are pandering to with draconian gun control legislation now.  (My own thinking is that there are lot of closet gun owners in NoVa, people who are professionally successful in this government employee, contractor, IT services-heavy environment, and who want to protect their homes and families.  Living in NoVa, they are just too embarrassed to admit they have a Glock in the dresser drawer).

So lobby day in Virginia went off without any of the violence from all the nasty right wing extremists much to the chagrin of the left wing media and government officials in the state. All those people with all those evil guns and not one violent incident. Contrast that with what we see from all those nice unarmed people we see protesting in places like Portland. Very interesting who the dangerous people really are.

And yet the VA legislature does not allow Republican backed bills that put criminals who use a firearm in jail for a mandatory 5 yr minimum.   So much for “crime control”😏.   It’s about controlling “we the people”, not guns or crime.

They don't hate guns, they hate us. I think people are finally starting to accept that reality.

This. They are not against guns, because the guns will be needed to disarm people. So it’s not that they are anti-gun. They'll need the guns of the police to take away other people’s guns. So they’re very pro-gun; they just believe that only the Government (which is, of course, so reliable, honest, moral and virtuous…) should be allowed to have guns. There is no such thing as gun control. There is only centralizing gun ownership in the hands of a small political elite and their minions.
