Rumor on arfcom that CZ is preparing to by Colt
« on: January 10, 2021, 11:33:47 AM »
Didn't see a source.  Just figured it was a rumor, but hey, they already make 1911s.

Buy it, move the manufacturing facilities (I hear the equipment is very old, very labor intensive, etc.) to the new CZ plant and buy some modern equipment and "go to town" making 1911's and AR15's.  Maybe some of the Colt revolvers, too.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Seeing how the new Python is made, I doubt all of Colt's equipment falls into the old category. The new Python is 100% CNC machined.

Well talk about buying a junk car that's barely restorable. I hope it's true though and maybe CZ and Dan Wesson can bring them back into touch with reality. Virtually everyone else has learned to cater to the CCW market with a modern pistol but no not Colt their best entry is the re-issued Cobra and that joke of a jam o matic junker the Mustang that never has run right.
Yeah the new Python is fully CNC machined but the roll out was one of the worst ever and they quietly recalled EVERY one that hadn't been sold from the first runs for misfires and cylinders that wouldn't rotate plus a slew of horrendous cosmetic issues that simply should not exist on a $1500 gun.
They simply do need a buy out and some new management strategy.

Well that could be interesting, I suppose.

My King Cobra purchased last year has been excellent. No issues whatsoever and a very smooth DA trigger.

I have to agree, my King Cobra has an excellent trigger, DA on a par with both of my Kimber K6s. The single action is slightly heavier but very clean.

fwiw,

old equipment doesnt make any sense today.

No one wants to pay for craftsmanship, manual labor or headcount to do alot of hand fitting.

What they will buy is the name and the history associated with it.  Dont know about the toys colt is making but they could get the rights to do make them.

if they do buy, it would be interesting to see what CZ says about the reasons.

Looks like more than a rumor.
https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/breaking-cz-in-late-stage-talks-to-acquire-colt/

Yup.

I guess I'm still scratching my head at how the Colt brand offerings are going to compliment/mesh with the CZ and Dan Wesson lines.

Will they acquire Colt, and then just take a hands-off approach and let Colt keep doing what they're doing on their own?

Or will they adjust what Colt offers so it doesn't overlap and compete? I'm thinking mainly of the 1911 market here. For example, does DW become the higher end 1911 part of the business, and Colt focus on offering 1911s for the sub-$1200 market?

What happens with the Colt revolver line?

And then there are the Colt ARs, which I can't believe are selling very well, except on name/historical nostalgia alone. They are quite expensive compared to much of the competition, and not all that up-to-date.

It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out, but in the big picture it seems like a good indicator of the overall financial health of CZ, and their expanding commitment to the (largely) American market.

Are you typically in a position to purchase a large firearms manufacturer? ;)

Think global. The Colt name commands prestige across the world. CZ money with Colt name and tech with CZ money and ingenuity...they are going places all over the place. This might not help US out yet, with an "uncertain future", but world wide markets will benefit.
