Which option is better?
« on: May 17, 2021, 05:18:25 AM »
Hello, I’m looking at a couple of guns to shoot in IDPA SSP and maybe a similar class in USPSA. I’m currently interested in the CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical and the SP-01 Shadow Target 2.
I’ve looked into CGW’s action reworks, adjustable sights, etc.  I’m positive by the time I get all of the work done to the Tactical, I will be at or exceed the price of a new Shadow Target2.  I’d like to know (and I know it’s all personal preference) after having the work done by CGW. Will the Tactical actually be better somehow over the Shadow Target 2?  I’m sure that’s a stretch. The difference will still be the FPB on the Tactical. I’m also wondering.  If I have the work done.  Will I be able to use the Tactical in SSP?  That by itself may answer the question.

Thank you for your help.

I checked the IDPA rules an as long as the changes are “drop in” or are internal and do not remove any material.  They are allowed.

I have a SP01 tactical that CGW performed their pro pkg on and shoot it in SSP in my regional matches. When you call then describe what you want to do & they’ll guide you through it. Hammer choice is one of those aspects.

CGW’s work has been superb, making a great gun even better IMO
Like a midget at a urinal, I'll have to keep on my toes

I have an SP-01 Tactical with CGW pro package and an SP-01 Shadow also with a pro package. The Shadow with the pro package may or may not be comparable with the Shadow Target 2 as far as the trigger is concerned, I don't know.

What I can tell you is that the trigger on the Shadow is slightly smoother in DA than the Tactical on my two pistols. I also don't know if it's just a qwerk of my two pistols or not. The SA is no different to me.

While the Shadow is smoother I'm certainly not taking away from the Tactical, it's butter smooth itself and it has a decocker which I really prefer over the safety model. I shoot the Tactical way more than the Shadow. I guess Mick was right: You can't always get what you want..

I have been told the way mine are configured I'd have to shoot ESP in IDPA. Haven't done it yet because of ammo prices  :-[

IMO with experience with FPB and non FPB CZ's the non FPB is a little nicer.  Shorter DA/SA trigger pull BUT the difference is small.

For competition the first trigger pull is the only DA on a stage and the SA are so close.

I think you should buy both and decide for yourself...LOL
If I had known how much better being retired is than working I would have done it FIRST.

 Excellent advice. :)

But having said that please be aware that I don't think the Shadow Target2 is legal for USPSA production division, unless something has changed. That's the division it would best fit in. That's basically why the Shadow 2 Orange came out. Unlike the CZC gun the Orange is considered a factory production gun and is legal for that division.

Just buy a Shadow 2 or Shadow 2 Orange and call it a day. :)

Why a second thread for the same question?
This isn't the appropriate sub-forum to compare a CGW product with a CZC product. Bottom line is. . .both guns outfitted with similar sights and with improved trigger parts and polishing will perform virtually the same at speed in a match. The CZC tuned Shadow already has the work done, the Tactical you will have to have the improvements made. Yes, there's a difference between a Shadow and Tactical when comparing trigger pulls at the bench, but in actual practice it isn't noticeable. 6 of one, half dozen of the other.

Not sure why you think the Shadow target 2 is not eligible for USPSA production.

Hello, I apologize for the multiple posts.  I was just trying to get information that would help with my decision.  I would more than likely shoot IDPA SSP. In that the tactical would be limited to what is allowed. The Shadow Target 2 is allowed in IDPA SSP.

Because USPSA has said it's not...

EDIT - Actually, I think I'm confusing that with the AcuShadow. Nevermind, though you may want to contact USPSA to be certain.

I’m looking at the CZ75 SP-01 Shadow Target 2.   The CZ75 Shadow 2 are different firearms. The latter is overall longer and weighs more.

Starting on page 99 of the USPSA is an extensive list of allowed modifications, which cover both firearms.

OP e-mail Troy McManus, DNROIat USPSA for a definitive ruling.

Given the similarities of these two pistols, think there is little difference. Which ever feels best in your hands and balances best is the one I would choose.  Like your choices, both are rock solid.  Wish you luck.

Thank you!  The reviews are encouraging. I’ve been trying to find as much data as I can on them.

Best bet is to get a shadow 2!
