Continuing p01 issues
« on: May 19, 2021, 09:53:15 PM »
Bought a p01 decocker model. Installed cgw parts before testing pistol (like an idiot) because I knew I wanted them in. First range trio had many ftfeed. Tried cleaning and lubing the S out of it. Next range trip... still ftf but less and sear pin walking out so decided to send to cgw to get it squared away. They said everything was installed correctly but I was missing a washer on the right side of sear pin so they fixed me up. Took it out today. 3 ftf in 120 rounds (much less than before) but I noticed shaving hitting me in the arm and burning me a bit. Realized it was shaving from the brass casings... wtf. Ideas? http://imgur.com/a/8dLtwRO

Probably need more info to help with an internet diagnosis

Ammo- reloads or factory?

Magazines- happen with all or just one?

CZs have a reputation for tight chambers, this may be contributing to you problems- especially if ammo is suspect.

My 2 cents
Like a midget at a urinal, I'll have to keep on my toes

Failure to fire?  Failure to feed completely into the chamber so you could then fire it?

I've bought one CZ that had failure to feed issues.  The Urban Gray P01 Omega.  Had a small spot on the feed ramp that the bullets would sometimes hang up on stopping the slide forward movement.  You could see the nose of the bullet just "stuck" on the feed ramp.  I polished the feed ramp to a mirror surface and no more failures to feed.

Yours looks like it (the case) might be hitting the back end of the chamber.

If you have brass pieces in your hand I'm going to guess you can see the shiny spot on the case where the brass pieces were shaved off?

Mark some brass cases with a sharpie.  Mark the top (just a small mark) but be sure to insert them into the magazine to have the spot at 12, right on top of the round in the magazine.  Shoot some and pick up the cases and see how the shaved brass is oriented to the top dead center mark on the brass.  That might tell you where the brass is hitting the sharp steel corner that is causing the problem.

A tiny bit of polishing at that spot should help eliminate that issue.  Or contact CZ-USA about it see they will take a look at the barrel and do the work themselves.

Good luck with it.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Failure to feed. At first it, they were getting hung up like how you described your p01 but now it's making it almost all the way in before the round is getting caught up.

Have you plunk tested your barrel? Remove the barrel from the gun and drop some of those rounds in the chamber. They should slide right in and spin easily and drop right back out.

I recently bought a new P-01 Omega and it has not had any issues in over 200 rounds of Re-manufactured 147gr, 124gr and 115gr. Defender ammo, as well as some 115 gr Blazer.
FYI: My last CZ 75B Omega had some issues with failure to fire, where the there were no visible marks on the ammo primer and CZ "lengthend the throat". Whatever that is, it worked.

They extended the free bore because the bullet was hanging up on the rifling preventing the gun from going fully into battery. CZ's are notorious for having short throats but it seems to have gotten really out of hand on some guns of more recent manufacture.

Not what you want to hear, I bet, but I would put it back to stock and fire it. Still doing it, then send it back to CZ. They will take care of it fire sure. They replaced my P01 Omega UG/SR because of a dead front night sight!

A couple of my CZs have really short throats and will cause failure to fire with some ammo.  One of them requires me to reload twenty thousandths of an inch shorter than the manual indicates.  You have to lighten the powder charge off minimum to keep from getting an overpressure. Thinking seriously about having the throat cleaned up so it will accept XTP bullets at recommended lengths.

Have not had one spit hot brass at me yet, maybe my next CZ... :)

Good luck on resolving he issue.

Yeah, I put in a warranty request with cz. Just waiting to hear back. Sucks I was stupid excited for this pistol... but nothing but problems so far. I'll prlly get it squared away and then sell it. Going to be hard to trust it as a carry gun.

Well you admittedly worked on the gun before testing it so at this point there's no way to know if the gun had an issue from the start or not. You will need to remove all the custom parts from the gun before you send it to CZ-USA. There's a possibility they could decide to replace the entire gun and they will not save parts from the old gun for you nor will they swap them into a replacement so keep this in mind before you send it off.

Yeah, but nothing has been replaced that should affect the issue that I'm having. It will suck bad to undo all the work that both I and CGW have done but I guess that is probably where I am at. All the work I did was inspected by cgw and they seem to know what they are doing. Also have to try to track down my receipt otherwise CZ may tell me to pound sand.

My P01 had failure to feed issues. I did some polishing on the ramp, which helped, but ultimately took it to my gunsmith and he found it was an extractor issue. It's be good ever since.
