Glock trade-ins?
« on: September 12, 2021, 02:11:13 AM »
I subscribe to a lot of YouTube gun channels. On one of the latest videos from ‘God Family and Guns’ they discuss one of the most returned guns by gun panic buyers. It was Glock. I’m curious to hear other’s thoughts since Glock seems to be, for the most part, a love it or hate it gun.

Not a striker fan as far as any brand goes and with out starting the worthless safety no safety thing because you'll be proficient with what you train diligently with period I'd say the number of glock returns at this particular store has more to do with the higher number they had in stock and the number of first time buyers they sold to than it does with the gun itself. Plenty of striker fired pistols are configured EXACTLY the same as glock so there's that as well.
I think there may be alot of new gun owners that simply decided they don't want a gun in the first place.

I saw this video as well.

I realized though that if they'd bought a P10 or a VP9 they'd have had the same misgivings, so as much as I love to diss Glocks, I imagine its a natural misgiving for a first time gun owner who bought a firearm out of a sense of fear more than in an interest in firearms and shooting.

Welcome

When filling your brain with boobtube stuff consider the source and did you or anyone vet.

The web is filled with OPINIONS.

But when I see something like this many questions come up and not yours.

such as...

- did the person's do their homework or just panic buy because joe blow next door did so?

- were they able to buy any ammo or did they not consider that.

- did they have any previous gun /shooting use/experience?

- and to numbers to the mix...if used (or not) Glocks ate sold more so, than I would expect more returns.

Sometimes the answer can be simple but sometimes there is more to it.

And ymmv.

i bought a new, NEVER used Glock G-19, for a song, and a S&W .380 as well, from a husband and wife who bought these guns, all "cuz they had to during the panic buying"

i dumped the S&W, to me a .380 sucks, but i will absolutely, keep the Glock

i like all guns, striker, or hammer. i am not prejudice against one or another, and i OWN both types.

it's people that bought during the panic, that just  don't want them anymore, and these guns can be had for cheap. as i bought those 2 guns, for the price of one..!!!!! PLUS the ammo...!!!!!

Just  getting on thru retirement., and into the sport of shooting, with anyone of my......21 handguns, either semi-automatics, or revolvers

I’m sure Glock’s name recognition fueled the purchase for many. For people who aren’t necessarily “gun people”, Glock is one of the most recognizable names. Just my opinion.

Remember Y2K ? It was a good time to have some cash available if you wanted to pick up some firearms fairly cheaply. Deja vu all over again.

This.

Is exactly what I was thinking. People who suddenly decided they wanted to buy a gun, and this may have been the only name the uninitiated knew. Buyer's remorse, wanting the money back, the desire to purchase something else....take your pick of those and many other reasons. Then the gun gets sold and the buyer gets some of their money back to go buy whatever it is they have now decided top buy, firearm or not.

When I first started really buying guns I admittedly bought a G19 and G26. I’m a thumb safety guy and I knew Glock didn’t have an external safety lever. But a company out of NY, “Cominolli”, makes an aftermarket drop-in safety specifically for Glock that requires a minimal but irreversible frame modification. I added the thumb safety to both Glocks and they performed flawlessly. But I never could get past the clunky boxy feel of Glocks. I sold them for the luxurious feel of the CZ platform.  ;D

I'm just hoping that all the return mean that ammo prices can go back down to reasonable levels...

The media plays a role in this.

I bet a lot of people feel they oughta buy Glocks cause all the time they watch TV, the good guys (LAPD, FBI etc) usually carry them and the heavies are the ones with the big metal guns.

Heck, any time I see a CZ its usually on the big bad assassin. I remember in this show, The Blacklist, the protagonist had to turn rogue, took a person hostage and immediately asked for a pair of CZ 75s, LOL. I thought she had good taste.

I feel the same way. I own one, and was forced to carry one, and yes they work...but I prefer both form and function whenever both can be had. Glock only has the later.

I just wonder what has happened that would make anyone turn in or sell back any firearm they bought six months to a year ago. I guess everything is better now.
