Duracoat finish for CZ-82

I'm looking to 'restore' a couple of very beat-up CZ-82s. What DuraCoat finish would approximate a factory finish for one of these guys? I'm thinking a slightly more satin-y finish than the gun had originally, but probably still one tone black.

I have seen some very intriguing projects here, but I'm just going to go Dullsville.

Remove the front and rear sights, or leave in place and paint? I have seen both done, but it seems that painting/coating the rear sight would make it liable to chipping on reinstallation?

Decided I might as well refinish both CZ-82s while I'm at it. If one goes bad can cold blue the second one.

Should get pretty good at reassembling the sear when all is said and done.

Tried the citrus stripper, but didn't remove much of the paint, so going with sandblasting for painted parts. Planning on bluing the trigger and trigger guard, hammer, extractor and sights.

I would recommend bead blasting instead. Much gentler on the metal.

I’ll check but I think that’s what the shop actually does.

I had hoped to strip it down chemically, but no dice.

I assume you know the reassembly procedures?
It's been stated by many that the sear spring (#42) can be a real confidence breaker.
A tip was to take a small flat blade screwdriver and grind a "V" in it, to use as a tool.

I’m dreading that part. I did pick up a repair kit for watch bands that appears to have a suitable gewgaw for this task. I have reassembled a number of Czech firearms over the years, the worst IMO being the vz. 70.

Hey I have done a few of these. the Paint will come off with paint stripper. the gel type strppers work well. I have a post of my refinish job.  Most of the small parts are blued by CZ when new. I have blued a few 82s and never had to redo the small parts just my 2 cents.

Nice work! I just wasn’t getting results from the chemical stripper.

I’d rather have someone do a hot bluing if I’m refinishing the whole gun. I think. For now the plan is still to Duracoat the slide, frame, safety and slide stop.

Moving on to the next stage. Had the two CZ-82s sandblasted (next time bead blasting).

I think I have enough coating for three handguns, so I'm going to prep a surplus CZ-75 pre-B as well. In similar condition to the 82s, severely worn and chipped gloss black paint, I'll use a chemical stripper on this one and avoid the sandblasting issue.

Right now polishing (flitz or fine sandpaper) to smooth out the blasting. Won't actually do application until spring (no heated workspace), so no real hurry.

Can't wait for the reassembly, first time for an 82, but it'll get done somehow.
