PS, I think I know what the problem is, but I don't want to alter the rifle to fix it as that will likely invalidate the warrantee.

What appears to be the problem?

I was thinking lubricant gumming issue myself, along with too light a spring. Possibly the bolt not closing fully but I can't see how this would happen in cold and not warm weather, unless snow was caught up in the action somehow.

I think the internal tollerances of the bolt are too tight.

Could be, and maybe even along with a rough finish. If it were possible to see where if might be rubbing you could try polishing with very fine sand paper or steel wool. I'd probably give this a go myself but understand the concerns over warranty.

The bolt firing pin hole need enlarging, the cold makes the steel contract.

To know what the cold can do you need to spend a winter in Saskatchewan. It's -25 right now, but it's not so much as the reading on the thermometer that's the problem, its the wind chill... I have experienced - 50 wind chill several times, its litterally a killer.

Out of curiosity- what, pray tell, do you think the problem is?

As for gunsmiths asking your advice, I know how that goes. Tom Selleck was all the time hitting me up about how to be appealing to women. I tried to help the guy but, being in demand is tough.

I would try to explain but (removed)

Oh I think I understand a great deal. Happy trails.

It's not saving any water if you have to flush it over and over....

Time outs are coming for people who try to bypass the foul language censor and personal attacks. Lets keep this family friendly.

And the timeouts are here. Mr Explosive: 30 days moderated status for use of obscenity. We do not tolerate such behavior. When/if you come back, mind your manners.

That's probably best left to be rectified as part of the warranty - I'm not sure if that can polished out. I'd tend to reducing the firing pin diameter a tiny bit rather than enlarge the hole if you want to self rectify - a firing pin is easier to replace than rectification of the bolt in the event that something goes wrong.

That's exactly what I did, it's fine now.

Sorry about the delay in replying. :)
