Converted CGW Pro Package to SAO- getting 2 resets???
« on: February 28, 2022, 02:11:32 PM »
Hello All,

I converted an SP01 [manual safety] to SAO and noticed that it now has two resets.
  • The first is a very faint, but clear, click at around 1-2mm of release/reset. gently squeeze and the hammer drops again.
  • However, if I let the trigger out a little bit farther, there is a louder click from resetting.
  • I don't know the distance, but remember it being about 3 times as far out as the first reset.

I have only hand cycled it, and dry fired [with o-rings].

The pistol has a Cajun Gun Works full pro-package in it. I decided I still couldn't live with the DA length of pull, so I then converted it to SAO with a new SA trigger.

From all of the reading, I kept seeing people say to remove the disconnector when making it SAO, but others stating that there is no need to remove the disconnector- it simply ceases to be relevant.
  • I choose to leave it in until I can fire the gun and see how I am liking it. I may go back to the DA/SA trigger, and this is one less part to swap around.
  • I don't know if having the disconnector in is the reason for the second reset, but I wanted to identify that the Disco was still there, to help others problem solve and explain what it going on.

I know the CGW system creates a shorter reset, but I didn't know why I am getting two resets. Can anyone help me figure this out?

I'm not sure?  I think you have a triggerbar tension issue that is highlighting something in the action.  You have to have both the sear and firing pin block lever reset for the gun to fire.  Is the firing pin block reset after the first soft reset happens?  After the first soft reset, drop the hammer with a pencil in the barrel pointed up.  Does it launch the pencil (without orings blocking hammer)?

I assume you have the CGW short reset kit installed if you have the pro package installed?  It seems that you have a long reset for a SA conversion?  Have you adjusted the pretravel setscrew?

I'd be interested in seeing/hearing this if you can post a video?  You'll have to host it somewhere (rumble?).

Thanks Toby,

I won't be able to dive in to troubleshoot until the weekend, at the earliest. I'll try the pencil trick to see if the FPBlock is disengaged with the first reset.

I was wondering if the second click was the disconnector popping into place, while the first was the 'real' reset. If the pencil trick shows the first reset is working for firing pin block also, I'll try taking it apart to remove disconnector and try it again to see if this removes the second/longer reset.

Thanks.

I had a similar issue of two resets.

This might be of help.

Well, as it turns out, schmeky was correct,as was mtops. The trigger bar was actually giving uneven pressure, and lifting unevenly. Left side was lifting up first. I bent it down using nose pliars.  It is fixed now, and there is no false reset. Below is the step by step fix from schmeky,

1. Remove the slide
2. Cock the hammer in SA
3. Push down on the trigger bar and at the same pull the trigger all the way back
4. The hammer should now be fully cocked in SA and you should be holding the trigger all the way back
5. SLOWLY let the trigger go forward and watch the 2 humps in the trigger bar - one will jump up sooner than the other
6. The one that jumps up first has to much "up" tension on the trigger bar support spring (#34)
7. Bend the #34 down at little at a time until both sides of the trigger bar pop up at the same time

I was doing step 3 all wrong. It has to be done as mentioned above. With the hammer cocked, press the trigger bar down, then pull the trigger all the way back with the bar still pressed down. Then once the trigger is all the way back, release the bar. Then move to step 4.

Should this fix be a sticky?

Thanks all,

When I get a chance this weekend, I'll see if I need to apply the trigger bar fix to it.

Thanks again!

good insights.

I am just surprised that leaving the disco in with an SAO trigger would not contribute to something odd.

Eeman now sells a DA/SA flat trigger.

CGW flat trigger is for SA only.

Thanks for the info regarding Eeman DA/SA flat trigger.  I've been looking for one and those that I found are for SA only
