Red dot on PCR
« on: September 30, 2023, 10:53:38 AM »
My aging eyes are needing red dot sights more than ever these days.

I am thinking of having the slide on my PCR milled (or to get a spare slide and mill it) for a red dot.

Is the slide wide enough to mill for an RMR/Holosun "full size" red dot (508 for example) or must one go with the smaller sight (Holosun 507K or RMRcc)?

Thanks!

My experience with the Holosun K optics has been that they have unacceptable parallax problems. They're the only Holosun optic with this issue. However, the EPS Carry doesn't suffer from the problem, and it fits the width of the slide just right. You can also use a Shield RMS on the same footprint.

What kind of issues? Did a quick Google but didn’t see anything definitive. I have them on a P10C and a Canik Mete SFx Pro. Don’t have a lot of trigger time with either one yet, less than 500/each, but haven’t noticed anything at the 15 and 25 yard lines.

OP love my PCR and will follow to see if someone has figured this out. I’ve seen pictures of it done but by eliminating the LCI or removing the rear sight but don’t recall if they were using a C or K model.

The ones I have used have all had a parallax shift which made the optics impossible to zero. If you have one that doesn't have the issue, that's great news, and I'd use that footprint (specifically that optic) on a CZ75 slide before anything else.

I have a 407k on my P365 and a 507k on my Rami. No issues zeroing, I practice regularly out to 25 yds without any issues or shift in zero. Both optics have had zero issues and both pistols are in my EDC rotation.

YMMV

I have a 507 on a 365 and on my wife's Sig P322.  So far no issues.

My main concern is dot width on the narrower CZ PCR slide.  Some folks have told me that there is a lot of plate overhang with the full size dots (RMR and 508, for example).

Any advice on that?

I would stick with the k series.  507k is .98” wide, 507c is 1.24” wide.

PCR slide is

So if you go with a 507c (or 407c) you will get 1/4”+ overhang and will likely need to use a mounting plate which will raise the RDS higher. With the 507k you can directly mount the RDS to the slide with minimal overhang.

My Rami slide is about the same width as a PCR

And I don’t feel anything larger than a 507k works well.

Just my 2 cents.  I have heard of people doing it but my preference would be for the lower, neater mount.  I have a Romeo1 on a dovetail mount on my SP-01 but am planning to get it milled at some point in the near future

I have a 407k on a P-01 that fits perfectly with no overhang. I had Wager do the cut and he got it deep enough to co-witness with factory-height sights. Also, I didn't have any problems zeroing the 407k on the P-01 or on my Masada Slim.
