Fun day with my P09
« on: January 27, 2024, 10:28:35 AM »
We have a winter USPSA league where I live and I decided to shoot my long neglected P09 in production division.  First thing, the gun ran fine, no issues with functioning & hit where I aimed.  I need to practice more with it as I pulled some shots as I was transitioning from positions or targets.  Despite my failings, I came in first in my division, but know I can and should do better.  That said, I’m all about having fun first and concerned about my score second.

Am impressed (again) how softly this gun shoots- recoil is very minimal and suspect it’ll be better with my reloads.

I intend on using this gun at a nearby IDPA sanctioned match soon, so plan on using this in every opportunity I can and will update this accordingly.

Good thing to have a fun day at the range.

I second the "soft shooting" statements.  One day, at home in the mountains I was shooting my 4&1/4" M&P .357 SIG to see if the failure to fire problem was finally fixed (for the second time).  I shot almost 5 boxes of ammo through it and my brother shot some of those.

Then I loaded up the P09 and I swear my mind was telling me it wasn't firing.  I know it was.  I could see holes in the target.  I could smell the burnt powder, I know it was firing.  The recoil, especially after firing the .357 SIG was so soft it was tough for my "gun firing mind" to believe it was going bang.

I need to shoot that gun more.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Glad to read that you had a good day with the hammer gun.  I have two.

I have a 75B with both 9mm and Kadet slides.  I have a 10x bushing in the 9mm slide so it is very accurate.  But I dislike shooting it after so many rounds through the P-09 due to the difference in recoil.  My 75B is now almost permanently a Kadet host, not that there is anything wrong with that.  But, golly, the recoil from the P-09 is soft.

USPSA isn't supposed to be fun.   You're doing it wrong.

 ;D ;)

I am resistant to your blatant attempt to sell me a P09 though.    8)

While I try to do well and am competitive by nature, I don’t get overwrought when I screw up on a stage.  I shoot uspsa, IDPA, icore etc to have fun.  If it gets too competitive where the focus is on the score vs having fun with friends, then I’ll do something else.  Thus far, I’ve been fortunate that where I shoot it’s a good mix of competitiveness and fun.
