How to replace Rami mag release?
« on: April 01, 2024, 08:14:05 PM »
I’ve been looking to put an extended mag release in the Rami. Of course, everyone is out of stock for suitable replacements right now.

Anyway, I notice that the Rami magazine catch / spring assembly is different from the CZ 75 Compacts, which are held together by a single screw, which is pretty straight forward. Instead, Rami mag release / spring assembly contains a trigger bar coil spring, lifter pin, mag catch spring and trigger bar spring, all held in place by a “trigger bar lifter washer” slid into a slot inside the pistol frame. I assume this is all under spring tension. Pushing on the lifter pin from above, I can’t get it to budge, so I assume it’s under some significant spring tension.

My question is, is this assembly going to spring off into outer space when I pull the washer from its slot? These little parts are currently unobtainable from the Webstore, so I don’t want to risk losing them and putting the Rami out of commission until spares are located, if ever.

Any other “gotchas” in this disassembly / reassembly process?

Thanks!

Can't help you about the disassembly process. But if parts and springs are going to fly I usually carry out the process in a large Ziplock bag. Learned to do this the hard way when a small spring decided to vanish into the wide blue yonder.

When I did mine, I watched this guy's video on YouTube.   The lighting is not too good, but at least he shows what the pieces parts are and how they come out.

13:10 to 15:43 in the video...

Good luck!

That’s a good tip!

Thanks for that info!!

I notice in Part 2 of that series that the guy reassembled the mag release off camera because it was more difficult than the initial disassembly:

Hopefully, I can do this job without having to take out the trigger / trigger bar, etc.

I have no idea why CZ changed to this complicated design on the Rami instead of the simpler design of the Compact and large frame pistols, where the assembly is secured by a single screw.

There is no need to take out the trigger/trigger bar to replace the mag release.

Since the guy in the video does most of the assembly off camera, take note of the conditions before the disassembly and the order by which he does so.
Take a mental picture of the existing conditions of the assembly and better yet find some good lighting conditions and take pictures with your phone before you disassemble.

I found that having long needle nose plyers is helpful to pinch the mag release spring in order to compress it so it can go into its spot.

Good luck.

Thanks for that info! Will keep that in mind when I get around to swapping the mag release. Unfortunately, extended mag releases are still out of stock everywhere.
