Shot an IPSC match with my PCR......
« on: November 16, 2003, 07:22:49 AM »
Well ok. 1/2 of a match..I had to go get my kids.

I met up with these guys yesterday morning and shot 3 stages..all pretty basic and did pretty good.  My hits were all good, well...1 hostage shot in the shoulder, but did well other than that.  My times were "mid pack" for all participants and pretty good for production class........

All in all........IM HOOKED.....now who has a more comp. friendly gun..they can "donate" to me?  Loan for eternity, borrow and forget about????????????? :D  :D  :D

Shoot well...............

Congrats & welcome to IPSC/USPSA!! Can't loan you a gun but I can share some personal experience: Walt & I recently went around on the ideal CZ for USPSA (IPSC in the USA). Bottom line (from my point of view) if you anly want to shoot Production division, the 9mm CZ 85 Combat (the combat part is important) is ideal because it comes stock with adjustable sights, no Series 80 FP safety to affect trigger pull, an overtravel trigger adjustment from the factory, and ambidextrous controls for those times you will have to shoot weak hand. I bought an 85 Combat just for these reasons. I use a SV 1911s in Limited and Open and a CZ 97B in L-10. I buy a lot of guns.

Walt made the point that there are other CZ models that are more flexible as far as shooting different divisions & I agree with Walt; if you want to go for Major power factor scoring in say, Limited 10 Division (L-10) or obtain hicaps & basepads & go after Limited Division, Major, the rules say you have to shoot at least a .40 cal. The 9mm can still play in these divisions, its just that you will be scored Minor no matter how hot your ammo. Thus, a CZ in .40 cal will let you shoot L-10 and also allow you to down-load your ammo to also shoot Production Division ( you may want to use a weaker recoil spring with downloaded .40). A .40 could also mean you only have to buy 1 gun to get into several Divisions. I am lucky in that I am able to buy a different gun for each Division.

If a COmbat is at all difficult to get in your area, I can tell you I shot a regular, box-stock 75B in 9mm in USPSA for months and it worked just fine; the added features of the 85Combat are just icing on the cake! Regards, TY44934

Good day and thanks for the reply.

Ive had alot of CZ's, in fact the Custom SA Walt is shooting was built for a Comp gun.  I hope he enjoys it........hey Walt.

The tag line at the bottom was just a little humor...I just have no money currently..........until I run across some.  Ill just shoot my PCR...it did well.

Shoot well........

I've never seen a course of fire in IDPA where, when you're forced to shoot weak hand, you're required to do anything that makes using the controls necessary.

And I'm of mixed emotions about the adjustable sights.  I almost installed the Meprolights I got recently and put on a Compact on the Combat, instead.   I do like the overtravel adjustment, and I've read things that make me think the internals get different treatment, but in fitting and material (or coatings.)   Mine also has a Champion sear installed.  I "THINK" that helped, but can't be sure.

If you're forced to use weakhand, your other hand is out of action.  If your other hand is out of action, they're not going to ask you to do a mag reload, as that would be potentially VERY dangerous in a match situation.

I've shot my 85 Combat far more often in IDPA matches than anything else, but I'll probably try the 75SA I got from Eric the next match, which is a couple of weeks away.  I've been shooting so little and so poorly, recently, that I may just go run the match and not shoot to keep from feeling foolish.

I'm tempted to try my Glock 34, as well.

I noticed yesterday as I was practicing first shots, that I'm a lot slower than I was a year or so ago yesterday, but I was consistently 5/10ths of a second faster to first shot with the Glock than with any of my CZs.

I haven't figured that out.

"I've never seen a course of fire in IDPA where, when you're forced to shoot weak hand, you're required to do anything that makes using the controls necessary."

It is necessary for the correct weak hand grip, although that dead horse has been beat on this forum before; if you shooting style does not use a high grip then the ambi controls are of less value in competition. As I have said, I shot with a regular 75B without much of a handicap.
