i have two of them. one of them is two seperate pieces with a screw in the middle... it kinda sucks because it doesn't sit right, as the mag tube is bigger than the barrel. i bought a nice U-shaped one with a full swivel at the bottom, but since the mag tube is bigger, the top won't close on the barrel. doh, lol. i'll figure something out later.

The one I have is similar to this Tac-Star. The potion that clamps the barrel is substantially smaller to account for what you're seeing, so there is a definite up/down orientation. I put a double layer of electrical tape around the barrel to prevent scratching.

i bought a tac-star extension and it's just like that... that's a good idea with the electrical tape, i should've thought about that.

right now the gun is back with the seller - he took his own 11-87 apart and for some reason can't get his carrier to work right. i should be fitting the dave's metal works button and take a second shot at the barrel/tube clamp next week before my first 3-gun match.

thanks for the suggestions guys

Really don't waste the money on a mini, i have had four and always thought i could "fix" them and make them shoot right, WRONG! This includes their new supertune tight shooting model, just walk away.

As for ar's, they work very well, and even the "cheap ones" will shoot very tight groups if you take your time putting them together. Of the ones i have, my two favorites are cheapies. My hunting one is a 16" ultralite, i built that weighs 6lb, 12ozs scoped. (3-9x50) It will do nickel size groups at 100yds with my poor eye sight. The other favorite is a 16" ss fluted bull barrel with a 4-12x40 on it it does interlocking groups at 100yd, this is a bench rifle that comes in just under 10lbs.

Don't let anybody tell you you need more than a 16" barrel, you don't. Both of these rifles shoot dead on to 300yds, and will knock down coyotes at 500yds. blue
