« on: July 13, 2012, 10:19:02 AM »
Hi all CZ fans,

I finally got my lisence for my 3006 CZ 550 LUX, and fitted it with a LINX LX2 3.5-10x50 D scope.  I will manly go hunt in the bush and was wondering what you guys think is the best distance to shoot in the scope.  I was thinking of 200 m?  A friend told me 100 meteres is the best.  I am planning to go hunting in August.  Will put up a photo of my beauty soon.

The distance to sight in your rifle really depends on what distance you are most likely to take shots at game.  If all shots are likely to be at 200 yards or less, then I would sight in for 100 yards.  If you might be shooting out to as far as 400 yards then I would zero the rifle at 200 yards.  The ultimate goal is to achieve maximum PBR (point blank range).  Your goal is to sight the rifle such that at any range in which you are likely to encounter game you can hold on the target and make a hit in the vitals.

My practice has been (and still is) to sight in two inches high at 100 yards, that way I will be dead on at 200 yards and two inches low at 300, or so the theory goes.  Most everything I have killed has been within 150 yards, so I've not tested my Trajectory beyond that.  On Deer Size or larger Game, it works.  Different Bullet weights will rise more or less offering a different Trajectory profile.  You need to tailor your practice to your particular loading.  I generally use CCI Speer 165 grain Bullets over W748 powder.
