My first handgun tristar c-100
« on: December 12, 2012, 12:26:12 PM »
Hey all, I'm new to the forum and wanted to post a range report and first impressions of my first gun purchase, the c-100. I got the full hard chrome version online and it should be on it's way as soon as the seller get the money order ;D. Of course, I'll also be posting pictures to go along with my report. I'm thinking about taking some classes and trying out some IDPA when I get the chance. Does anyone know how long an FFL transfer takes on average by any chance?

[Update]

So I got my tristar c-100 today and my first impressions are overwhelmingly positive. The slight contours of the grips fit my hands like they were molded from them. The finish looks amazing in person. There are some small tooling marks visible, but the marks are relatively insignificant. The sights are a yellowish color and apparently glow in the dark. If I was going to upgrade anything it would most likely be the sights for some green tru-glow or HiViz sights. Here are some pics of the gun tear down for cleaning.

Will report back after taking it to the range. Can't wait!

[update new]

Alright, so I took my c-100 (canik 55) out to the range today to test it out. This thing is a very smooth shooter. The trigger is very nice, although with a little more take up them I would like. The recoil on this gun is practically non-existent. It feels almost like shooting a 22. I need some more practice with it, but I shot it much better than the S&W m&p I shot recently. I've noticed that the slide seems to be much more difficult to rack when the magazine is out. I assume that this is normal. I experienced no jams or malfunctions in the 50 rounds of federal classic 115 grain that I shot.

Shooting melons, and pomegranates resulted in a very satisfying fruit explosion. Actually, I think I may still have some on me. I'll be heading out again soon with a colored target with me so I'll be able to post pictures of that when I get back.

If anyone has any shooting tips for a newish shooter, don't hesitate to let me know!

Welcome to the Forum and Congratulations on your new Tri-Star C-100!  8)

As for FFL Transfers, time will depend upon the laws in your State.  Typically, here in the Peoples Republik of Illinois, it's three days wait and during that time, a background check is run by the State Police.

Hello and welcome to the forum from Texas. Congrats on your first handgun purchase. The C-100 is a very nice CZ clone made by Sarslimaz in Turkey.

As far as the FFL transfer, here in Texas it costs me $30 and about 20 minutes of my time. I fill out the ATF Form 4473, the FFL makes the phone call to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), and once he is given the OK, I pay the transfer fee and I leave with my new firearm.

Thanks for the info guys! I still need the money order to get to the seller. I'm in Washington State and he's in South Carolina so it might take awhile. I did already get a background check done for my CPL. Does that mean that they wont have to do a second background check when I pick it up? I've heard that's how it works, but I'm not sure. Either way can't wait to get my hands on it.

Fishban, You will still have to go thru the Fed check, depends how busy they are with the checks. Most times they answer right away, because you have a Washington State permit the state waiting period is waved. So you may be good to go as soon as you do the paperwork...Enjoy the Canik, it is cool...Spad

If he has a valid carry license at the time of the transfer, then the FFL doesn't have to do a background check.  I literally have never once had a background check performed on me when buying a pistol.  I'm sure they did a good check when I got/renewed my carry permit.

Bret, I don't know where you live, but everytime I have purchased a gun in Washington State, even though I have multiple concealed permits, the FFL still had to do the FED thing and wait for thier response, kinda stupid if you ask me,but you can't argue......Bill

Bill, it looks like Washington has some extra hoops for you to jump in.  I guess that I should have stated that federal law doesn't require a background check for carry permit holders.  Bottom line, it depends on where you live.

scooter01,

I purchased a Tristar C100 several months ago and am very pleased.  It has not a failure so far and is a joy to shoot.  The one thing I did notice is that it does not like my light reloads, the target looks like a shotgun patterning board.  However, with normal loads it shoots very tight groups.  Now I am thinking of buying another.

New member here. :)  Bought a C-100 from Academy in Sugar Land on 12/6 (not my first handgun ;)). I posted some pics on TaurusArmed.net, and will repost them here if anybody's interested. I've only put 100 rounds through the C-100, but I  really like it so far. They're still $299.99.

I think I may have read your post over there when I was looking up all the reviews I could find for the c-100. I'm addicted to looking up info on it until it gets here  ;D. Does anyone know for sure if the frame is a steel alloy or aluminum? I think the website says steel alloy, but I've read it both ways. Would you care to clarify for me? Also, I may some day try to do a DIY trigger job on mine. I really like DIY projects and I think it would be a fun way to become acquainted with the inner workings of the pistol. Does anyone know where I could find a guide for doing a trigger job for the c-100?
