Not too thrilled with my P-09
« on: September 28, 2013, 12:17:40 AM »
I have to be honest here. As happy as I am with my P-07 I was expecting to really love this P-09. However the more I shoot it the less thrilled I am. I cannot seem to shoot this anywhere near as well as my P-07.

I'm also not too thrilled with the weight. I just cannot get all happy about this thing. I may just give it to my father or sell/trade it.

Anybody else underwhelmed with their P-09?

There are very few guns i don't like.  There are some I prefer more than others, for example SIG's over Glocks.  I've never shot a P-07 or a P-09 but I like large heavy guns and want another project to test parts from CGW with, so, if you decide to sell it, let me know.

That's the beauty of true diversity - not everyone can love everything, or the world would be boring. :) I enjoy my P-09 more every time I shoot it, but everyone else's mileage may vary. ;)
Has your dad shot it?
I'd give all of mine to have my Dad back, so spend all the time you can with yours.

Are you just not producing the same accuracy/precision with it as with the P-09?  Or does it really feel that different (other than weight, which you mentioned) when firing?

I've been curious about this myself.  Are the two guns shaped differently?  They look the same in pics but for the 09 having longer upper and grip.  I would have thought they would feel the same in the hand, and most accounts indicate the 09 has the better trigger.

If it's just the accuracy that's weighing on you and frustrating you, have you tried a variety of ammo to see if the gun likes something else better?  Do you find the same disparity in the guns when shooting from a rest?

Again, I'm just curious.  I've become really interested in both of these guns over the last few weeks, and so I want to pick the brain of someone having different experiences with them.   ;)

I just did my first IDPA today, and took my P-09 along.  Although I have been more accurate with my friend's Remington 1911 in the past, I did really well today accuracy-wise, if not speed-wise   :P

At the range I notice a bit of trigger creep, but in the match, I didn't notice it at all.

I am in the same boat, the back straps are shaped a little different and aren't as aggressive. Trigger are shaped different, like the p07 better. Sight suck for old eyes like mine, guess that is why I have only put 20 through the pipe. As soon as I can get night sight like my sp01 tactical I'm sure that will help.

I'm at about 1200rds p07 and 550rds p09. Like them both. Bitched about the p07 trigger at first (and if I have a chance, I will install 09 on 07), but I am now accostumed to it. Have not had any failures yet. At first with the p09 my grip was getting slippery after a few magazines. I put glock tape on the grip and it actually matches the cz grip. Helped me squeeze less. I agree about the sights. Either a highviz front or tritium night sights would be an improvement. Keep at it a little more maybe. I was hitting a propane tank about a third of the time at 50yds with both guns, and my glasses prescription is over 4yrs old. I did install the medium backstrap, and the p09 is a little heavier. Hope it works out for ya.

Muggia59--This is off topic but I see in your signature that you have a Desert Eagle 1911 and a Ruger GP100.  I have the same guns and shot them both this morning, along with about 300 rounds through the CZ.  I'm still learning to shoot the revolver well, and don't shoot the DE enough to be very proficient with it, although I did qualify for CDP in IDPA with it last year.

I predict I will have a P-09 before Christmas.  I don't need it, I just would like to have one to shoot.

Joe. We seem to have the same problem. As a matter of fact I have every single gun you have listed below except my sig is the 938 (totally different animal...would like a 226). I'm not the most proficient with the revolver either, but that 357 does turn heads out of the blue. If you like your 75 trigger you will probably love the p09 or the 07 trigger. The upper is definetly bulkier, but I much prefer the serrations on the P series. DEFINETLY try 1.

Ran another 150 rounds through the P-09 this morning. WEAK hand standing at 25 yards, I hit Thugly 50% of the time. This is a great pistola.

Very nice. Not that I need 1 but I would like a 75b in black. If I do pick 1up someday I was thinking about the omega. My75b is the golden 1 (whatever that's called. Still waking up) and I have the kadet upper on it. By the way Grabagun had sp01 for 577$ yesterday. I'm out of funds til next year.

Isn't it odd how we happen across guns that, based upon our history of likes/dislikes, we should truly love and then, meh, not so much.  I have run into this a couple of times in my CZ adventure.  I had a Phantom sometime early last year, I think, and I just couldn't make myself love it or even like it much.  Recently I happened across another one at a very good price and voila, I love it.  There is absolutely no difference in the guns, obviously, so I have just concluded that I probably need some professional help.  ;D

Update.  I have a P-09 as of today, Oct 15, 2013.  So far, I like it just fine.
