You're welcome, Spirit 1; my pleasure.
I get the impression from reading this forum that there is yet another group feeding the frenzy ? old farts like me who are getting back into shooting after taking a hiatus to raise a family.
After having much interest in firearms and shooting long guns in my young years, I drifted away mostly due to a fatherless home and non-enthusiast family. Hard to shoot or own guns when no one will take you shooting or let you own any.
Once I was old enough and had the money to buy a handgun in the mid 90's, I got a Colt Detective special, one of the last generation produced. I was still living living at home at the time, and got nervous about it and foolishly sold it several months later having never fired it. Then I got a S&W .357mag J-Frame some time later. This one I actually shot, but once again, I got rid of it eventually for whatever stupid reason.
It was only in the past few years that I got another handgun, a Ruger LCP, then my CCW. This time it wasn't because of a huge interest in firearms but because of the sheer vitriol and general nastiness and wickedness of people and the culture nowadays. This led to one thing after another and now I'm back into guns in a big way.
So yes, it is partially because of Liberal extremists like Obama, their policies and mindset, and the types of people and their mentality who support them as to why I chose to start buying guns and arming myself for defense. But they're not the only reason. I know a sinking ship when I see one (America), and I believe things are rapidly deteriorating on all levels, regardless of political party, religion, etc. Not only in the USA but the west in general.
Your average Conservative/Republican type being in power today isn't enough to stem this downward spiral, it would take someone or something far more radical or unusual to change things for the better. Most so-called conservatives capable of holding any power today are merely the other side of the Liberal coin. They will just "go with the flow" and cave in to any fad or PC thing to stay afloat in power while continuing paying lip service to their constituents who are the REAL conservatives who are powerless to change anything. Any serious changes that needed to be made in our country needed to have been done 15 or 20 years ago while there was still time, and our elected officials failed us miserably in that regard, despite all the obvious warnings. I believe it is too late now. I sometimes find it hard to even recognize or relate to the country's people and mindset of today that I grew up in and I'm not even that old yet.
So I'm just living my life day to day as best I can, but preparing in a reasonable way for a worst case scenario as best I can, which I believe will surely happen somewhere. It's only a matter of time.
