Obama drives support for handgun ownership to a new high

Obama sets another record:

.

Note how the metric tends to peak toward the end of a 'Tic administration ? a natural reaction to tyranny.  Our Founders gave us an effective negative feedback mechanism.

I personally know of a few shooters who were completely new to firearms in the last few years.

Interesting is the mix some are adults who finally decided to give it a try after decades of not being interested. Others are the new generation who are more likely to have gotten into firearms due to playing video games like call of duty. Which makes sense as many young people do not have a place to shoot or some times parents who shoot.

The mixed bag is they are new to firearms and need help with gun safety but they make up for it with fresh desire for their new hobby. New shooters (male and female in large numbers) are what will keep the second amendment strong into the future.

You're welcome, Spirit 1; my pleasure.

I get the impression from reading this forum that there is yet another group feeding the frenzy ? old farts like me who are getting back into shooting after taking a hiatus to raise a family.

You're welcome, Spirit 1; my pleasure.

After having much interest in firearms and shooting long guns in my young years, I drifted away mostly due to a fatherless home and non-enthusiast family. Hard to shoot or own guns when no one will take you shooting or let you own any.

Once I was old enough and had the money to buy a handgun in the mid 90's, I got a Colt Detective special, one of the last generation produced. I was still living living at home at the time, and got nervous about it and foolishly sold it several months later having never fired it. Then I got a S&W .357mag J-Frame some time later. This one I actually shot, but once again, I got rid of it eventually for whatever stupid reason.

It was only in the past few years that I got another handgun, a Ruger LCP, then my CCW. This time it wasn't because of a huge interest in firearms but because of the sheer vitriol and general nastiness and wickedness of people and the culture nowadays. This led to one thing after another and now I'm back into guns in a big way.

So yes, it is partially because of Liberal extremists like Obama, their policies and mindset, and the types of people and their mentality who support them as to why I chose to start buying guns and arming myself for defense. But they're not the only reason. I know a sinking ship when I see one (America), and I believe things are rapidly deteriorating on all levels, regardless of political party, religion, etc. Not only in the USA but the west in general.

Your average Conservative/Republican type being in power today isn't enough to stem this downward spiral, it would take someone or something far more radical or unusual to change things for the better. Most so-called conservatives capable of holding any power today are merely the other side of the Liberal coin. They will just "go with the flow" and cave in to any fad or PC thing to stay afloat in power while continuing paying lip service to their constituents who are the REAL conservatives who are powerless to change anything.  Any serious changes that needed to be made in our country needed to have been done 15 or 20 years ago while there was still time, and our elected officials failed us miserably in that regard, despite all the obvious warnings. I believe it is too late now. I sometimes find it hard to even recognize or relate to the country's people and mindset of today that I grew up in and I'm not even that old yet.

So I'm just living my life day to day as best I can, but preparing in a reasonable way for a worst case scenario as best I can, which I believe will surely happen somewhere. It's only a matter of time.

Ouch!  How much would cost to replace that revolver today?

I wanted a self-defense pistol for decades, but the need was never dire.  And, in my youth a .22 LR Browning Challenger III for plinking was a higher priority.  I admit that my decision to finally get a self-defense pistol (or four) last year was catalyzed by the deteriorating economy and societal divide.

I hold out no hope for a political solution to our out-of-control government.  VAians, for example, last night, after witnessing five weeks of catastrophic failure of ZeroCare voted for more socialism and gun control.  Henry, Washington, Jefferson, and Lee are spinning in their graves.

I doubt there are enough free states willing and able to call an Article V convention to reclaim their Amendment 9 and 10 rights.

I am 70 and I have had a gun I owned in close  at hand every day of my life since Christmas Day 1953. The years I was in a collage dorm they were locked in the guy that ran the dorm's office but could be checked out any time.

I had some land that paid school taxes to Harrold Texas the first school to publicly announce that they allowed teachers to carry guns.

A year ago I was buying some primers on pay day in Bass Pro in Oklahoma City and watched people that had never seen a gun grabbing the off the shelves as fast as they could. Far too many were women buying 9 mm pistols that weigh less than a pound. I'm not saying the can't handle a light 9 but they won't use one to learn to shoot.

I saw one NIB identical to mine online going for $900. It looks like it actually sold too, because it was gone when I checked back a couple days later. I think I paid no more then $350 for mine. I can't believe people are paying the prices they are for Colt wheelguns.

Yes, I'm kick myself in the ass over it about six times a year, one kick for each chamber.

I read that Colt destroyed the plans for all their revolvers.

Wouldn't surprise me, as Colt seems intent on making themselves as uninteresting, unappealing, and unaffordable as much a possible these days.
