...when I forget the camera...
« on: April 27, 2014, 01:41:39 PM »
THAT'S when everything works perfectly! Met my buddy at the range this morning, and I decided to go "light", with just the 527CSR and Thugly. I put the Thug out at 100 yards, when we could get a break on a line dominated by Tactical Tonys, every variant os AR-15 you could see. Targets were at least at 50 yards and a couple at 100 yards, so these guys were a class above the crowd from last time.
I didn't bring my stool deliberately, as I wanted to practice my off hand, so I started shooting. I kept it to 4 out of 5 usually, with some 5 out of 5. A couple of times he jumped a chain hook and ended up swinging. Stop shooting? Heck no - moving target! Amazingly enough I hit him several times without hitting the stand leg he was swinging in front of...

At one point the two guys to my left were banging away with a black tacticool AKM clone at a steel caltrop target about 30 yards out. It took one of them 30 rounds to hit it once. They were loading up while I dumped 5 out of 5 cast bullet hand loads into the Thug, and turned around to see them both staring at me, so...I said something. Probably NOT the most diplomatic thing I could have said, but the guy with the NFA shorty AR with its thunderous side concussions had put me off my feed a little...

"Hit something, don't just make noise."

They nodded, and actually started using the sights on their ComBlo blaster. Go figure.

All in all a very good way to start off the week with everything it has in store for us. I just love shooting that little carbine!

I tried it this morning without the cameras myself.  Wind was blowing too hard to have used them anyway.  I needed to simplify my training plan and shoot  the match courses of fire, and not just the rapid fire sequences that make good video.  I got to think about shooting the gun instead of thinking about shooting the video.  Worked out great.

Sounds to me like leaving the camera at home allowed you to beat up on Thugly pretty badly!!  That is a good thing.  Plus you got to set the example by shaming the bullet sprayers in to shooting their rifle.  That is also a good thing.

So, a good day, just not formally documented.  I know how tough that can be, LOL.

Kind of how I feel at the range with my beautiful wood stock, bolt action, 22lr, CZ452.  So many "modern sporting rifles" so much blasting and yet so little to show for it. Sometimes I look at the targets on the firing line and wonder just what the heck the other shooters are doing when they pull the triggers. Most of the guns, dang few actually, are CZs but there just cannot be that many inaccurate guns being manufactured.

It's a deliberate lack of training, and the only "training" some of these kids have is watching "Training Day" or movies like it.  :'( There could be some fine shooters out there, if they stopped to try.

"Hit something, don't just make noise."

I love this!  It's even better when boolits are involved!
