I carry my PCR (same as P-01 without rail) OWB daily, comfortably and while I have added upgrades for my own personal tastes I have no where near a grand in it. I know guys who have plenty in their glocks with upgrades like grip reductions and trigger work and all the other things that some guys have to add to those guns just so they fit their hands. That's not for me, if I have to modify a frame to make the gun feel good the gun isn't for me to start with. This all comes down to opinion and preference. I like the hammer fired DA/SA style pistols and I don't like striker fired guns like the G's.
The gen 4 frames are essentially decent out of the box IMO. I don't really see a need for mods.
My P-01 was nearly $600 after shipping and transfer etc. Do a set of night sights, and then dump the majority of the internals in favor of CGW parts so it actually has a nice trigger etc. Set of decent grips... and you'll be around a $1k. Out of the box stock pistols, I'll take the Glock every time. The CZ's factory pull weight and creep and length are fairly awful. It takes far less $ to make the Glock trigger tolerable for use too. Now, I think you'd have to spend hundreds to not quite reach the P-01 after all the CGW parts went in it with a Glock. But I can make it decent for $50. It's not exactly apples to apples.
The P-01 is 28.1oz (empty) the G17 is 25.06oz empty, 32.12oz loaded. The G19 is 23.65oz empty, and 30.18oz loaded. Once you load the P-01 it's just heavier and has more stuff sticking out and off of it. I absolutely love the P-01, but when it comes to simple carry guns, especially IWB. The Glock carries better. Even a full size. It's lighter, holds more, and doesn't have a beavertail stabbing into me when I'm sitting and leaning etc, or any levers on the side. Now if it came time to actually get the gun out and use it, I have more than enough time behind a G17 to do what I need to do in a typical situation. If I had a split second to point shoot a BG in a crowded area... the P-01 would be ideal.
Without a doubt a g19 is going to be easier to carry as it's lighter. I have one myself. Right now, I'm carrying my steel framed SP-01 compact, and I'm sitting with nothing poking me anywhere. That part I don't understand, if the pistol is holstered how are you getting poked, stabbed by the beavertail, levers etc? The key to carrying a heavier gun is a decent holster, and a belt designed for carrying pistols. A $20 belt from wal-mart isn't going to cut it ( not ment as a dig on you) I'm using a Blade-tech nano for a P-01, and a belt made locally by Broken J Tactical it's a 1 3/4" wide belt. With this setup I'm fine and nothing pokes or stabs me anywhere, what kind of holster/belt are you using?
As far as having to dump alot of money into these pistols to get a decent trigger I disagree. My SP-01 compact has about $77 ($87 with shipping if I remember correctly) worth of CGW parts in it, I installed a extended firing pin kit, a #13 hammer spring, and a CGW trigger return spring, and CGW's easily removable trigger pin. I actually like the recurve trigger so, it stayed. I'm quite happy with the results, putting about 6-700 rnds through it really helped smooth it out, right now, I think it's fine as it is. I paid $ 541.71 plus another $10 for the transfer fee, for the pistol.I plan on installing a set of Dawson sights with a fiber optic front. One other thing I did, and this is purely optional, is to get the mag bodies electroless nickel plated, they'll never rust again. I was having a problem with the spare mag I carry rusting, as they have NO protection with the shiny blued finish that comes on them, this fixes that, and I found a place about 30 miles from me that specializes in that and they did it in a week. $110 to do 4 mags, considering Robar, does it for $20 a mag, plus you have to pay shipping both ways and on their web site they tell you not to call them for at least 3 weeks after sending them in, to see where you're at. I think this was a bargin. Especially since I could drop them off, and pick them up on site.
