Prapor??k (Warrant Officer) is shooting......a CZ 82/83?
« on: September 05, 2014, 06:26:27 PM »
In the photo accompanying the article, it looks like members of the Czech Army in desert uniform are still using the CZ 82/83. The tan holster worn looks like the right one too for this pistol.

Probably a Cz82.

Thanks for the link!

I could never really picture anyone wearing that large leather holster, but after seeing this photo it does not look so bad. I may have to dig them out and try one next time I am out shooting with my buddy.  Someday I plan to use a CZ82 for my concealed carry (minus the holster, of course) qualification shooting, so I usually run 15-20 rounds through one each trip to the range.

They're pretty slim, but it might work.

I think it would make a good open carry holster.
Gun is hidden and it would look like a tool pouch
of some sort. What do you think?

I'd want to be very sure about local laws before going that route.  "Open carry" and "gun is hidden" aren't entirely compatible in my mind.  Like in this line from our most definitive source for unquestionable facts, Wikipedia  ::):

"Some states specify that open carry occurs when the weapon is "partially visible," while other jurisdictions require the weapon to be "fully visible" to be considered carried openly."

I really didn't mean "open carry" per say.... I meant you could carry it
in that holster and nobody would know it was a gun. Does that make
sense?

Practically, big maybe. Legally, not so much.  Also, it's large enough and lightly colored enough to draw attention, which isn't good.

Gotcha. So long as it's done in compliance with whatever rules you live under, I think that that could be a fine option.  Sorry if I came across as overly picky, it's just that "open carry" is a specifically defined term in my mind and I'd really hate to hear about someone getting in trouble over a holster.  Especially someone who otherwise has such good taste that they'd show up in the CZ82 & CZ83 club on this forum!   ;D

PS.  Welcome to the forum; glad to have you!  Tell us a little about yourself over in the New Members section if you get a chance.

I live in Pa. and we have open carry laws. Only trouble is, every cop that would see it
would have you against the wall and handcuffed before you could explain to them that
it's legal to do so. Typical mentality of our police today. I call them gangbangers with
uniforms...

I am not remotely a legal expert - especially not on Pennsylvania, where I've only ever spent enough time to get confused about how to buy beer - but I do want to be sure I've presented my thoughts/guesses clearly.  What I'm suggesting is that because of the enclosed nature of the pictured holster, the gun could be considered concealed - so open carry laws would not apply.  Instead, in order to carry in that holster one might need a LTCF.  I expect that if I've totally blown it here someone who knows better will let me know!

Again, I hope you'll pardon my pedantry, I just think it's important that as gun owners we get all our t's crossed and i's dotted when it comes to legality and the ways we present ourselves in public.

I also have a concealed carry license, so the point is moot.
What I'm saying is, using that holster, the gun is concealed
but still out in the open if you know what I mean.

Absolutely - I think we're in agreement then.  I also do agree that there would be times and places where that would be just the ticket, just like at other times you'd end up going totally the other direction.  Let us know if you end up using one at any point, I'd love to hear if it turns out to be as comfortable and convenient as I might imagine.
