Bullet News: Rocky Mountain Reloading Plated Bullets
« on: November 18, 2014, 08:59:29 AM »
According to the owner of Rocky Mountain Reloading, who posts regularly on another popular forum, the RMR plated bullets have been a great success. So much so that more models and calibers will be introduced shortly.  He said...

Quote
Okay, sometime next month we will be getting 147 grain 9mm and 124 grain flat point 9mm.

Right now their 124grn RN for 9mm sells for $81/1000 making it the best bullet buy in my opinion. Buyer reports say it's one of the best shooting bullets out there.

Check It Out Here

If anyone sees the new bullets, then please post it here.

I've bought some of their 'seconds' before, and they were fine.
I've always assumed their bullets are really produced by Xtremes, and I see they(RMR) now have .223 - can anyone confirm or deny the actual manufacturer of 'RMR' branded bullets>

They report that the lead core of their plated bullets is harder than other brands. Their bullets also look radically different from other brands of plated bullets. I can't imagine investing that much money in space and equipment to make bullets right now, but apparently they have. I don't think these are made for them either. These are not copy-cat designs. I think that wanting to be in the business, and not having a steady and reliable source pushed them.

They still intend to sell pulls and blems from other manufacturers. But these are not from someone else, at least anyone I can ID. Their RN are really stumpy giving which gives more rifling contact area.

I remember awhile back, one of the members here had sent out packs of 100 to some of us for testing. I can't remember who that was. That made me switch from plain lead to plated. I had found that the xtreme was cheaper at the time and had also heard the rumor that they were the same bullet so I have been shooting them. I think at $81 per thousand, that puts the rmr cheaper than the extremes at the moment. I'll have to by some for a comparison now.

Any idea of their shipping prices?  Do they use flat rate shipping?  And if so, what do they charge of 1K of 124 gr bullets?

They ship free with the option of very reasonably priced shipping insurance.

Just had to partially enter an order to find out.
I had the right to remain silent...

but not the ability.

No shipping - less you want a t-shirt or some type of insurance.

I meant to pick up a thousand & hit the wrong box. Got the Berry's instead.

This time the bag came unmarked. I dropped them an e-mail saying it was a good idea to lable the bags.

That was me.  I'm glad to hear they made a great impression on you.  Those bullets, at that time, were made for RMR by Power Bond.  But PB has since closed down their facility in McCammon, Idaho and moved everything to Meridian, Idaho  http://www.highbornoutdoors.com/HBO_Categories/HBO_Categories_01/HBO_PowerBond/HBO_PowerBond_01.html.  These RMR bullets are made by RMR up near the panhandle in Lewiston.  They've published on their site the plating is "as thick or thicker" than others on the market they've dealt with and that the hardness of the core is at 11-12 BHN.  So they should be some good plated bullets.  I'm going to try some.

I need to let everyone know that RMR sent me 250 extra rounds to replace only12 that I was shorted.  There could have been a number of reasons for the shortage, and I thought they should know about it in case they needed to make some corrections somewhere. But the important thing is that RMR went the extra mile to keep a customer happy.  They're great people to deal with.

My experience with Rocky Mountain reloading was priceless.  A knowledgeable ethical first class business IMHO.

The ONLY issue I've ever had was that when buying "pulls" or "blems" from Rocky Mtn that they may not identify the manufacturer (and some of that could be contractual from their supplier). So if you developed a great load and wanted more bullets you couldn't get them, once their supply was sold out. Therefore, I had to do 'lifetime buys' if I thought things might work out.

I've never had issues with their business practices, bullet pricing, or delivery fees. And now that they make their own bullets, the availability issue is moot.

On bullets, should I assume my purchased 'RMR seconds' are the same bullets as they now 'manufacture,' or is it possible they are/were Xtremes?  They sure seemed to have the same profile and Max OAL as Xtremes, but... ???

To be clear, I've had good service from RMR, probably faster from order to receiving them than direct from Xtreme, just like to know for sure who is making what.  I recently picked up some 'unknown brand' 55gr FMJBT from Roze (retail for Zero bullets) that have had less than stellar performance so far..
