Consolidating calibers- What do you currently stock/shoot?
« on: January 28, 2015, 11:14:50 AM »
One of my New Years firearms resolutions is to consolidate 1 rifle caliber. Last year I consolidated my pistol
by giving .40S&W the boot. This what i currently shoot and I'm leaning towards giving 7.62x54r up.

So what do you currently shoot ? Here are mine.

Pistol
.22lr - 9mm - .45 acp - .44mag -7.62x38r -.357mag - .38 special

Rifle
.223/556 - .308 - 7.62x39 - 7.62X54r - 5.45x39 -.30 carbine - 30-06 (Garand)

Shotgun
12 guage

My current calibers: 9mm, .223/5.56, 7.62 x 54r and .22lr

I've been thinking about adding .45acp but I'm just not sure that I want to do it.  I kind of like keeping it simple.

You must not be a 1911 fan. When it came to pistols it was easy. First of all I love my revolvers and would never let them go so .357/.38 was going nowhere. I can't picture my safe without at least a couple of 1911's so .45acp is a main stay and the amount of great 9mm is endless. Couldn't consolidate pistol calibers anymore.

9mm (85% of my shooting)
.38 special
.380 acp
.32 acp
.327 Federal Magnum / .32 H&R / .32 Long
.45 acp (my son's, but I reload for it)
12 gauge
30-30 (my son's)
7.62x39 (my other son's)
.22 LR

Reload for the 9mm, .380, .327, .45 (will add .32 if I end up keeping that gun)

Handguns: .22 lr., .22 WMR, 9mm, .38 super, .357 mag, .357 herrett, .44, .45 ACP, .45 colt, .338 federal

Rifles: .204, .223, .243, 6.5x55 se, .270, .30-30, .308, .30-06, .338 win mag, .348

12 & 20 ga shotguns and .36, .50 & .54 caliber muzzleloaders.

I handload for all the centerfires. Like my dad says (who has an FFL which makes the hobby much more affordable for me) "it's like golf clubs, you could play a game with only a putter or only a driver, but it would be a lot less fun."

Nah, I like 1911's.  I just haven't owned one in quite some time.

9mm, 5.56/.223, 12Ga.

Looking to add either 7.62 NATO/.308 in an M1A Scout Squad and/or 7.62x39 (looking real hard at the 2nd Gen models for the PTR-32 and Sig 556R).

Of course, making an SBR out of a PTR 91 PDW could be fun also hahahahahaha!

I agree. I still don't own anything that fires:

.22 WMR
.32 Auto
.32 H&R or .327 Federal
.270 Win
.30-30
.308 / 7.62 NATO
.30 Carbine
10 mm Auto
.40 S&W
.45-70

So there are a lot of options left.

Well, I was strictly gonna stick with .357 magnum, 9mm, .22lr, and 12ga...then I found this Ruger Redhawk .44mag and... So much for strict adherence.
