P09 ISSUE
« on: February 01, 2015, 12:23:15 PM »
In April 2014 I purchased this P09 thru Damascus (great company) recieved it and my son took it because he wanted to shoot USPSA.
I have plenty of guns so didn't miss it. He shot  but said couldn't hit anything. He added CGW parts including the dawson sights.
About 2 months ago he gave it back and I was taking to the range to get it ready for USPSA Limited minor wanting to add the Magwell and mag extensions.
When sighting it in the rear sight has to be moved too far to the right and at first I thought I could live with it but NO it really bothers me and if I went to sell it I wouldn't buy it. So I am contacting CZUSA to see what can be done. Has anyone else had this problem? I have other guns so this is not my eyesight being off.[/URL[/URL[/URL[/URL

I even reinstalled factory sights so both factory and Dawsons are sighted in.

It is very accurate POA and inpact are consistent.

I don't know how it could have happened, but could the front sight slot actually be off center, like maybe the slide was not mounted correctly in a jig during manufacturing?  I believe you said you installed two different kinds of rear sights-if so-then that should eliminate an improperly manufactured rear sight.

What did the factory test target look like?

I was really impressed with the 5 shot group that mine shows at 25 meters. I assume they shoot it from a rest of some kind...

I believe the factory is a test fire for reliability and group the shots and not to sight the gun in.
Stuart might be able to answer this more correctly.

I'm not sure if it is the angle, but it does kind of look like the factory front sight is milled slightly off.

I'm gonna say shooter error on this one, pulling the shots to one side.  Then compensating by adjusting the sights rather than ones technique.

I wish it was the shooter it would be an easy fix but then my STI 45, sp01s, 75b, HighPower, c-100 and S&W 22A would require their sights to be adjusted. I put 3,000 rounds a month through the STI and CZs alone MAMAs BOY against league/competiton shooters 2x/week.

I made the assumption earlier that you changed the front sights with the rear sights, as matched pairs.  If you did not, and you are using the same front sight, unmoved, then it would seem as though the problem involves the front sight somehow, quite possibly the location of the milled slot in the slide, or the front sight itself (perhaps you do have a bad front sight).  Did you change out the front sight in your replacement efforts also?

I can't see anything wrong with the front sight position.  Just for kicks, check that the barrel is fitting the slide correctly at the breech end.  Something is way off and it doesn't look like the sights.  Do you have something like a wooden dowel that you could place in the barrel and compare to the side of the slide to see if the barrel is parallel to the slide sides?

At first the CGW sights were used, competition rear and red fiber optic.
I then changed back to the factory sights, 3 dot painted not the greatest.
The CGW sights are sit higher and I did notice the front sight leans slightly left so when I put the factory shorter sights I thought that would make a difference but it didn't. You can see the difference in the pictures of the different sights.

I was thinking the same thing. From the pictures the front sight looks centered to me. Interesting idea about the dowel.

Sorry to hear your having a problem Old Rocket, interested to see what the cause is and how it works out.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

I think Joe's suggestion is sound. Check to see if the barrel is completely parallel with the slide on both sides. If it is not you have found your problem. If it is, then you have eliminated one possibility and can focus on the front sight.

But we all know this is very odd. Something is out of kilter.

Joe L just checked, barrel and slide look parallel  with the slightest  side to side movement at the breach.
Looks like CZ USA will have to let me know what is the issue.
That is the only issue making me unhappy with the p09
