Add loctite to set screw on loaded chamber indicator on late 97B

Thanks for this!  I put loctite on my grip screws because those were loose but the thought never crossed my mind to check that indicator screw and it was loose too!

In the original post at the top, I noted it was 1.5mm.  I think that is still correct.

This is the way it will go down with my luck: I'll be at the Rainge, minding my own business and the LCI will fly off and into the blouse of the lady shooter on the lane next to me. As I'm trying to explain I'm looking for my LCI she doesn't seem to want to cooperate with the intrusion...yet another Rainge I've been banned from...
Seriously though, I'm thinking of putting a very small peen mark between the edge of the screw and base plate for the LCI, so I know if it ever moves after it gets the blue Locktite treatment.

You will need a hex wrench, not a screw driver.

I just purchased a new one of these several weeks ago and had to heat the plate to get the set screw to budge. Mine came from the factory solidly Loc-Tited into place. Maybe they have recognized this as a problem. Any how, I finally got it unscrewed, cleaned the old LT off and re-applied and screwed back into place. Thanks Joe for the alert!

OK Question here: I watched a video where at the shot show they mentioned (Angus I think it was) to remove the loaded chamber indicator because it was something that could cause problems if it stuck etc. and now I read something about proper lockup? Should I remove the loaded chamber indicator or not? I did notice that you can't drop a round in the chamber and then drop the slide because of it??

I did't see the shot show video but you must NOT remove the Loaded Chamber Indicator assembly that houses the setscrew as it is needed for lockup location.  You could remove the little silver spring loaded vertical indicator PIN, I suppose, but I've not had any problems with it at all.  I'm not changing mine up.  Works perfectly. 

I don't ever drop a round in the chamber and drop the slide down on it, but yes, the indicator pin would interfere with that, I suppose.  Dropping the slide on a chambered round is also hard on the extractor.   I wouldn't want to do that, loaded chamber indicator pin in place or not, not going to do it. 

I just add some blue loctite on the set screw and left it alone is all I've done.  I've put a lot of rounds through the 97 and never thought about it again.

Just an FYI:  that loaded chamber indicator also determines the rear of the barrels ultimate lock-up position.  So it's pretty important.  We always Loctite every 97's LCI that comes through the shop, blue Loctite seems to work best.

I was unaware of this problem, so I pulled out my 97BE and checked.  The set screw was tight and my smallest metric Allen key could not budge it.

I guess that CGW took care of this for me when they did the "E" conversion.

I had about 400 rounds through my 97B before I heard something drop onto the shooting bench.  The pin and spring were long gone, but the barrel block and set screw were on the bench.  I have a new pin and spring on the way from CZ right now.

I received this from CZ USA about the LCI

"While rare, it does happen on occasion the set screw that holds the barrel stop plate and loaded chamber indicator on can loosen up under recoil and if not caught can fall out and parts are usually lost. It is perfectly acceptable to take the set screw out, degrease it, and put a drop of red Loctite on the screw to help make sure this does not happen. With any screw in parts such as this they can loosen up over time especially when they take the abuse that the barrel stop does. We recommend keeping an eye on it and check it for tightness form time to time. Let me know if there is anything else you need."

I picked up my 97B last year. Set screw wouldn't budge.. So I haven't messed with it. I do keep an eye on it, though.
